I've been wondering, why would someone bother to enter a giveaway and once they win it, they:

  1. Don't redeem it (Or perhaps they gave the key to someone else since you can't find it in their game library)
  2. Don't mark as received.
  3. Don't respond to the messages.

And the problem is you can see them online both here and on steam o.O I'm really surprised because I found out i'm not the only one telling asking this person to redeem the key!

If you encounter such a situation, what would you do? And when is the best time to request a re-roll? Do I have to wait a full week?

A little something for your time

Thank you for the advice guys and for your time ❤

I just don't worry about it, if my giveaways aren't activated karma will sort the person out.

I also do a lot of public giveaways....and without any level restriction. A few bad apples won't spoil the whole apple tree. If you encounter any rule-breakers, just reroll - that's all you need to do. The problem isn't with the public giveaways - rule-breakers can be found everywhere.

Thats true! I don't want to make all my GAs invite only or for higher levels, some people are nice and deserve a chance of winning, can't let those bad apples ruin their fun of joining this site.
And yes those rule breakers need a warning or something :( wish we can report them XD

It's a very good idea to brush up on the site rules, from time to time, just to make sure you remember them. From what I've read thus far, a lot of the people posting could benefit from doing exactly that.

Can't we just shoot them like we used to do?

Aaaaand, suspended. Not sure you can comment, but what rule did she break? Admittedly, I didn't read the entire thread. Calling out? As in too many specifics about the person she's impugning?

Considering the details that have been given by the OP it isn't exactly rocket science to figure out who they were talking about. Essentially it solicits a withchunt. So yes calling out rule would be technically valid here.

Okay, thanks. I didn't follow the breadcrumbs to find the culprit, but if it's really easy to do, then, yes...calling out.
I swear I've seen similar cases where the OP wasn't suspended, but maybe support was busy or they got suspended after I noticed.
[Edit: TBH, I don't know that the Guidelines say anything about, "making enough comments so that an experienced SG user can deduce who you're implicating-- this will be considered calling out and you will be suspended." But...who says the FAQ and Guidelines are perfect?

Use the appropriate avenues for support. If you have an issue with another user, submit a ticket with a user report, rather than calling them out within the community or on the forum.

To be honest the first half of this is more important. Really if you have an issue with a giveaway or user, contact support since they are the only ones that can actually do anything about your issue. Threads like these are actually rather pointless.
In regards to "Similar Threads" they are yes and no, more so in the language typically used in those threads come across as asking a general question rather than referring to a giveaway or anyone in particular, e.g. "What do I do if "X" happens?". It would be wrong to suspend the user in those situations if that's all they literally say and make no mention to anything else in particular, even if your gut instincts tell you they are doing something like calling out, you have no valid proof of this and they could legitimately asking an innocent question. In which case all you can do is answer their question and tell them to read the help section. To act in this situation would be bad moderation.

Okay, I see what you're saying, but I don't know...that's a pretty nuanced difference for a new user to be expected to understand. The basic approach of, "I have a situation; I'm not sure what to do; let me ask the community" is a common workflow in online communities, especially if they have an awareness from other threads how long Support can take to address issues due to staffing vs. demand (which hopefully has been alleviated with the recent promotions).

The fact that nobody urged her to close the thread to avoid risking a suspension suggests that most people didn't think this was an instance of calling out, or at least not a clear one. Yes, I suppose the answer is always, "contact support." But a helpful community likes to be...helpful, and "contact support," while technically the only correct answer, doesn't come off as particularly helpful.

Thank you for your response.

The problem was not with the question that was asked. The problem was with the information that was publicized. Each individual is responsible for knowing the site rules before posting. If there is some question about those rules, both the community and the Support staff are available for clarification.

Yes, I agree that ultimately, too much information was provided so it was basically tantamount to calling out. A suspension was warranted, though unfortunate-- (aren't they always)? I was mostly addressing CommissarStrayed's apparent stance (not to put words in his mouth) that one shouldn't ask the community for thoughts on a situation if you have an issue with a giveaway or user.

I get your meaning.. I wasn't trying to start an argument where there was none. I was just trying to make sure that what I had said previously was clear and understandable.

Truth be told I never noticed the edit till too late, though most of the time the community is oblivious to the rules and guidelines and rarely if ever consider reading them. Hell as a perfect example I have a giveaway group that I have to boot a fair chunk of people out every so often because they don't bother to read up on the group's simple rule.
Rather than replying twice in regards to not asking the community, I meant it more along the lines of you'll get better help asking support than asking the community; see point about about a good chunk of the community being oblvious to rules and guidelines.

I've always wondered, what prevents someone from using the key on an alt account or something, and then just claim that the key you gave them was a duplicate?

nothing, but it won't go unnoticed so the second time will have consequences.
and it's a worthless risk most of the time since keys from bundle sites can be revoked. ┐(´ー`)┌

I'm sorry you got suspended. I'm not sure what you did, but you seem to be a nice, new SG user. The site is actually quite complicated, and the Guidelines and FAQ don't have all the answers, despite our pleas. I hope you stick around. :3

I think this is why a lot of people use SG tools and make it at least level one or at least a private link

Permalink

Unfortunately that's why people feel more comfortable to make high level GAs and hide them behind SGTools, you usually don't need to bother with users like that.

I heard that the SGTools spyware helps filter out some of those problems, either for the giveaway itself or just using it to check your winner(s).
