Since I started playing core games, I have relied on my husband's collection to get me familiar with them. I feel that I am now comfortable enough knowing what I like to start making my own decisions. However, I do not know where to look. Does anybody know any places for games reviews? Please keep in mind that we own a Playstation and Wii, not just a PC. Therefore, if it reviews console games, that would be best.

Edit: One thing to note is that I am not looking only for reviews for games that are out for a while. I am also looking for those games that I never heard of before. If I never heard of a game, I cannot search for it. I heard of magazines like Nintendo Power and shows like X-Play that did this, and that is how I am looking for. If somebody can provide sources similar to them, that would be a lot more helpful.

reliable game reviews

A+ joke.

I read Eurogamer for their reviews and Digital Foundry (also published on Eurogamer) for comparing a multiplat game tech-wise. If you just want specific reviews for any given game, search Metacritic and read the critic reviews linked there.

Archengeia, by nature of how he goes about them is always super far behind, but reliable game reviews isn't a bad joke.

Good, but long example video (Half-Life 2 Thoughts): Half-Life 2

Even if you don't use it for current reviews, if you enjoy thinking about games on a far more critical level, they're good to watch.

I need to have heard of the game before I can search for it. What I want is sources that provide reviews similar to a magazine format.

Well if you'd like to start making your own decisions as you say, then please i beg you, do NOT stick to one review site, and take EVERY single review with a grain of salt, considering the point of view of the reviewer in question, the reputation the site has, and what other reviews say about the game itself.

Try not to pay attention to score based reviews, read what they say about it, read what others say, and then draw your own conclusions.

Asking around in forums is something i'd skip if i could, considering how extremist some users can be, leading to extremely biased analysis of their favourite/most hated titles.

Have fun, as you've noticed, i didn't link any site; i suggest you simply google the terms "game + review", and go from there, as there are very few sites who will consciously analyze a game and give you a good rundown of its quality, in the end the best reviewer around is you.

EDIT: Seeing your last reply, you could start with sites such as Gamespot, which are kept updated regularly and allows you to know new titles.

Metacritic is a good place to start, and has links to professional reviews from a large number of sources.

Atomic is right.

The final score is an aggregate of several reviewers and just about every game is reviewed.

Any review site that gives a score to a game isn't reliable.

So then, you have Rock Paper Shotgun... Also, go to Eurogamer's column of Richard Cobbett for oldies, very funny reviews and, he's awesome. More than that... you're on your own.

If you want reviews for a game, just google them, like others have suggested. Never trust just one source for reviews. And check out the user reviews on Metacritic, they can be pretty useful sometimes.

If you want to find games you've never heard of before, there are a few things you could try. On every game's Steam store page, there's a "Recommended" section. Check out the recommendations for games you enjoyed and you may find some pretty good things. This feature is available on other sites as well. So far, I've found the most interesting things on Gamespot, for some reason. Also, check out the developers of the games you enjoyed and see what else they made. Beyond that, you could think about what genres you enjoy and search for lists of such games. Anything from Wikipedia lists to random forum threads of the "What games are similar to X" variety could lead you to a hidden gem.

Once you've found something that interests you (and know it's name), you can google reviews.

If I had to recommend a site, it would be Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

Try IGN for video reviews and Metacritic for written reviews :)

Rock Paper Shotgun is my go-to place for all things PC gaming related. They are the Rolls Royce of PC gaming websites in my opinion, but their reviews/views/news articles sometimes stray from the format and style of more traditional publications ("Wot I Think" being the common code for "review") - this is a good thing. The quality of the writing puts most other professional outlets to shame, but be aware that they can be pretty tongue-in-cheek at times. As an added bonus, the comments by readers are a notch or three above your usual gaming communities (they also have a thing for puns - you've been warned).

If you are interested in coop games, seeing as i can understand you play with your husband, co-optimus is a good place for reviews of cooperative games for any platform.
Another source i find interesting is TotalBiscuit on youtube, his WTF is.. series is really good. And while he's not a pro player, and sometimes he really sucks at playing some games, nonetheless he offers 20+mins of gameplay footage, which I think is enough for you to make your own idea of the game.

For those who have Spanish as a mother language or a very high level and are adults, my prefered site is gamesajare. But don't expect grades or any serious stuff. What you will find are thoughts and opinions + articles related to the industry from a group of very experienced "amateurs", full of life related and insane jokes but with deep knowledge of what they're talking.
