So I finished a handful of public GAs, odd enough I found 5 users who enter a lot of them within the last couple of hours with generic thanks messages... my first reaction was to blacklist ALL of them! (most of them were level 1 with poor ratios)

So if most of them had way more wins than sent and comment the same generic message on each GA...THE BOTS ARE HERE! But.. one is level 3, another has 2 more sents than won, another is even... so this makes me think that they are just regular people with a script that automatically comments a generic thanks message for every GA that they enter.

So in the end I removed all but one from my blacklist because that dude has not only sent annoying generic messages, but has a ratio of nearly 0.05, and I can tolerate either a horrible ratio or an annoying generic messages but not that combo.

What do you think... am I paranoid with bots?

Update:

If you didn't read everything or misunderstood me, writing "thank you" might get repetitive but I don't blacklist people who do that, using lazy scripts to post the same boring message hundreds of time on the other hand is quite condemnable. Bots gimme goosebumps tbh! wink wink

those are just people after all, but don't worry, doesn't matter if lv 1 or lv 6, you will find everywhere good and bad people. But those good, you always pay more attention to them :)

Are you sure it was same second? Because there are no timestamps.
He opened 4 giveaways of yours (in separate tabs) -> enter 1 giveaway, CTRL+V "Thanks" (or whatever he said), closed TAB -> repeat on the next tab. All with a difference of 1 second.
Now you opened your giveaways 1 by 1 with a difference of 1 second -> it will show you that "Alleged botter" commenter 10 seconds ago on each TAB, but in reality he left comments 13, 12, 11 and 10 seconds ago.

Anyway, even if some use autojoin scripts, why does it bother people? It's not like he wouldn't be able to join it manually. And he doesn't gain any advantage other other entrants either, because entry number doesn't give you advantage.

the difference is huge, autojoin is evilllll... and seriously now:
Yes it was the same second as it was so fast that I sacrificed some time to make sure it's the same second..
why does it bother people? hm... if you don't undestand it, it only can mean you didn't do enough of giveaways yet. Yes I didn't pay attention at the beginning as well but then you realize that you are expecting something for those free games. You use descrciptions, try to ask people about different things just to make sure they put at least THE TINNIEST BIT of their effort, not just click "enter" and that's all GIVE ME YOUR FREE GAMES BECAUSE I DESERVE... sad.

also you can write: "I don't need thanks it's spam for me", but you always feel better when you see those generic "thanks" :)
it's annoying only in case of autojoin

Well you get that "thanks" from the script - the man still had to put it, right? As for descriptions and effort, 95+% non-scripters/botters don't read descriptions and don't leave comments (and when I came accross a thread similar to this and read that people think that "Thanks=bot" I do the same most of the time aswell. And other times creator will ask about something you don't like/know).
And I doubt that anyone who enters giveaways thinks they "deserve" it.

you got something wrong in here: there is not effort in making bot post "thanks". This is just choosing the easiest way. If you can't read description and comment with your own fingers... gtfo. I'm giving free games/ spending cash on them and you still cannot read descriptions and comment by your own... well typical way of thinking by leech, you won't go too far doing like that on this site. Best way to just get some blacklists. not writting here about you, just making it general

Because of your way of thinking 95% of contributors on this site give non-bundled games only for groups or invite only. But this way of thinking is majority. Sadly.

Oh, certainly there are bots, but not all of us lazy ctrl+v'ers are. Just this morning I was blocked after saying "Thanks!" in a GA, which really annoyed me. I'm quite unoriginal, I know, but I usually join GAs when I get to the office before I start working. Do not expect me to be too proactive before my second coffee. Actually, I let most of my points rot and waste unexpended, as I only enter GAs in my wishlist. That said, yes, obviously there are a lot of bots and leechers who join any GA.

Try to add to your c&p messages the part when this game is in your wishlist, that might ease the blow on most I suppose :]

It's a very good idea, I'll try to do so from now on. When I'm not feeling too lazy, that is.

Whenever I create a lot of level 0 giveaways, there's always some users who comment on each. With identical messages. All left (judging by the timestamps) within a minute.

...that's not suspicious at all. :/

Even if it's not bots, it's spammy enough to block. Nobody needs to see twenty identical thanks in a row, one per gifter should suffice.

Well it's mostly new users. I used to comment "thanks" on each giveaway I entered at first, too.

I don't think they were newbies, but lemme check my recent comment log.
..at least ten comments in a row from.four 2+ years old accounts and from three 3+ years. Plus a single newbie among them.

Ok, but why would a bot/script leave a message?

Is this deja vu or you did write this before? I feel like I've already agreed with that statement.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

I used to just copy and paste "Thanks for the giveaway" all the time, that was when I joined the website, wanted to feel more friendly, in the end I just got into a few peoples blacklist :/

Now a days I sometimes comment Thanks or maybe something else depending on the giveaway and even the circumstance of the giveaway (i.e. A giveaway linked with a forum post of an opinion).

As I know there is a script that allows you to enter a GA directly from the public list without having to open the GA page. This scrip enters directly GAs you want but also leaves a "thank you " message. Not all are bots, some are just lazy to do 5 clicks to enter a GA :P

I still write thanks on all my giveaways, after 200+ joined back then it was an easy way to keep track of all the GAs I had entered in total. 2500 GAs, no win. Huzzah.

I used to just Ctlr -V a pre-typed "Thanks for the giveaway" line in each giveaway I entered. That is until my crappy internet backfired and I accidentally posted the same message 12 times in a row on a giveaway and got suspended for spamming. So, I don't do that anymore.

I say Thanks and stuff in the group giveaways I'm in, but I don't post anything in the public ones anymore.
