where did they say that? its just working for me and the new interface looks very nice
"Previously Quake Live was free to play but with a subscription service that gave you access to extras like stat-tracking for $36 a year. That’s now gone, replaced with a one-time $10/£7 entry fee for new players. If you’d ever previously installed the game on Steam however, subscriber or not, you can continue to play without now needing to buy it. If you were a subscriber but you didn’t install the game on Steam in time however, you can still contact Quake Live support for assistance in getting the game without paying extra."

they dont say that but I can actually say that the game does indeed appear when hovering on steam store as owned, and I never ever got any pro sub or anything and a license called "Steam" got added to my library 2 days ago, exactly when the transitioning to the service happened
however it doesnt appear in my steam library

I was surprised it was free in the first place. I assume they were making almost no money with the previous model so now they switched. Can't blame them.
Considering everyone who had the game previously keeps it for free I doubt they'll make any money now either.

Never played it but I did have it tied to my account so even though it didn't show in my library I was still able to install it.

This. It is a confusing situation that it behaves like a F2P (no library entry unless installed) yet paying for it does not count as games in your library. Strange...
Edit: It has now 3 subs https://steamdb.info/app/282440/subs/. I'm guessing ones who get it as F2P won't get it as a count whereas one who will purchase it will be added to your library regardless of installed status.

That's not the worst thing. They also dumped all the stats from the last 5 years in the trashcan. Basically they told the old players "f*ck you"

Was there a lot of hackers like in counter strike? I'm not sure if they use the Vac ban system, but if they do, now they will have to pay $10 if they want to get a new account after a ban. With a free to play game you can just keep making new throw away steam accounts and the bans have no effect.

Pst, don't tell anything bad about Bethesda. Even though they are more money-hungry than EA+UbiSoft+Activision+Capcom put together, they are the star of the gaming community, the loved publisher for… publishing Skyrim and Dishonored, I guess?
(Why do people love Bethesda so much, come to think of it?)

just to clarify some things.this was the last big update of quake live, they will stop developing the game in any way.they gave the game to the community to save it with dedicated servers and workshop.maybe the community will make the game better in the long run or maybe quake will die.time will tell.

It has been free to play for years now. Now Bethesda wants to charge people $10 to play it with achievements. This reeks of cash grab.......
And I thought it was bad enough with what they wanted to charge for the old Quake 2 series.....
