I am using a i5 3570k & it's been faithful to me so far & when it does start to struggle there's always the ability there to boost it :)
it does come with the price though but usually it's a CPU that is bundled in with other stuff which knocks the price down a little

3570k has an unlocked multiplier and is too easy to OC. Got mine sitting at 4.5ghz, chill temps with just a lowly hyper 212 evo. Got a micro center around you? 3570k goin' for $180, and a great mobo for the price is the ASRock Z77 Extreme4, or you could go for a lower tier mobo depending on your needs(if you want the option to Crossfire/SLI, # of SATA ports you'd think you'd need, etc etc)

The 3570k is better, pick that bench
If you don't want to do OC, you can pick the cooler master tx3 evo, wich is very good. If you will do OC, then pick a cooler master 212 or a noctua.
The motherboard that venomblade recomends you is very good, I recomend it a lot of times
Thanks for the fortix ;)

Assuming you already know what everything means, Intel's website is one quick way to compare features of various Intel CPUs. It's not going to tell you "which one is faster???" since 1 GHz Ivy Bridge isn't the same as 1GHz Haswell - but if VT-d is relevant to you (it's not) you'll know which one has it. And Micro Center would have been a great idea if you hadn't mentioned a price of £180 - bit of a drive for a CPU. :)
If it wouldn't break your budget I'd suggest either getting more than 4GB of ram - doesn't matter how fast the CPU is if you're swapping to disk all the time - or adding a small SSD for windows + your most frequently used programs. It's the sort of thing that sounds wasteful until you've used a machine with a SSD - then you may not ever want to go back. :)
Good luck, and I'm sure everyone else has given better suggestions in the time I've managed to type this message - lot of computer freaks in here. :)
Oh, and thank you for the Fortix giveaway, have to take a look at that one... :)

I was going to suggest 8Gb of RAM minimum too & also looking towards getting a SSD for my set-up even though it's not even a year old yet hahaha

+1.
Having 4Gb (as my case) means sometimes the windows will start to bug you on closing everything (it tries to kill the game, you have to say no). It happened to me on borderlands 2, Mortal Kombat Komplete, and is annoying. 8Gb will put an end on this problem.
For the CPU, try this site

i5-4670 (k-model only if u want overclock) is the best cpu for gaming
any mb gigabyte asus asrock msi with right socket is ok.

If you don't like Intel you can buy fx8320, cooling is pretty loud but It's more than enough for recent games.

Better go for K parts as they can be overclocked for a significant boost in performance. If you do so then get a CPU cooler, the stock one isn't so good if you overclock and you can find pretty good ones for a reasonable price. Get either i5-4670K or i5-3570K. There is also the i7-3770K and the i7-4770K but if gaming is all you want then the i7 are not worth the extra. Definitely get 8B of RAM. Some users also mentioned getting an SSD which can improve loading times but do not expect any other increase in performance from it.

+1 for the 3570k, I've had it for a while now and it's kept up really well. 8GB of RAM is recommended, and also make sure to get a mobo with a Z87/77 chipset, it's the best for gaming (assuming you're building a gaming rig). If you want a Haswell CPU, I recommend the i5 4670k. It's a very good CPU and roughly the same price as the 3570k. Good luck with your build!

So the title says it all. I can't choose between i5 4440 and i5 3570k plus I need a new motherboard to go with. So I found a nice deal around £180 ($300) 4440, with Gigabyte H81M, plus corsair vengeance 4gb but my friends say to go for 3570k because it's better.....
