I just got a semi-decent coupon from crafting a badge, and wanted to give it away on the coupon drop thread, but then realised that with the 15 day trade hold from not using the mobile authenticator, it'd expire before anybody would have a chance to use it. ><

Is there any way to trade coupons getting around the 15 day hold?

I thought if it was "gifted" then a hold wasn't placed on it?

If by "gifted" you mean send by email, that option isn't there for the coupon :/

If you mean something else please do elaborate, it would be nice for somebody to use the coupon instead of it just expiring

I mean, "trade" with nothing in return so you will lose the coupon and get nothing from someone else's inventory

I think only if you lose nothing in the trade do you not have a hold...?
Afterall, trade hold is to prevent someone from stealing items off of your account.

Unfortunately I tried that one before gifting a friend some cards, but it still put a 15 day hold on him receiving the cards. Thanks for the suggestion though

*possibly as YukinNya said above, it works if you "lose" nothing, in this case I'd be the one "losing" the coupon

As long as he puts something from his own inventory in the trade window, then it's affected by the trade hold. If someone else would give him something for free, then it wouldn't be affected by the trade hold.

If you don't use the mobile application, you will have to wait for the trade restrictions. No way around it. However, certain trade rules might help. If you have had someone as a friend for a year or more, the trade hold is only for a day. If a long term Steam friend uses the application themselves, then send coupons to that friend early on and have them hand out the coupons.

While it wouldn't have any effect on this, something else to be aware about the trade wait is that it only applies if someone sending lacks the application. If you send to me, trade wait, since you lack the application. If I send to you, no trade wait, since I use the application. If we both send, trade wait for both of us. If trading with friends in future, that information could help save some time.

Thanks for the info. I'll bare it in mind if anybody sends anything to me.

I have one friend that I added as soon as I joined Steam (I stayed away from the whole DRM thing for years), so once he's been a friend on Steam for a year I'm sure he wouldn't mind passing along coupons/etc for me.

Unfortunately I guess this coupons just gonna have to expire.

Not everyone has the requirements to do so.

Although I agree that two tier authentication is overall good for security, I'd rather not use my phone as the autheticator. I'm terrible with phones, and I've gone years without them. ;)

Strange, I thought coupons are considered to be valueless on top of being unmarketable, and the market restriction doesn't apply to them.

Trade waits apply on them, even though they expire before the wait period would pass.

Wasn't referring to the ones that can't use it

Well, The Witcher III or GTA V 90% coupon are valuable. But idk if such coupons exist :p

Nope, the publisher can decide on adding a coupon or not. I think. They are more of a leftover thing anyway, before the age of bundles.
