Hey, have you encountered any weird friends requests lately? I got three just today, all private profiled named [unassigned]. What's up with that? Is there some new scam going on?

Block and report those accounts. They are phishing bots.

Some other people said they're getting messages even from people that aren't registered on steam? Is that even possible?

  • How can the bots find me? I haven't been playing any multiplayer games recently and I'm posting in discussions only occasionally.

probably they just run through all steam IDs (numbers) and add those. Like "User 00000001, user 00000002, user 00000003" and so on.

One way they find people is Steamtrades, so I imagine this forum as well.

Since doing a bit, and by no means a lot of trading I'm getting a few here and there. I don't even have a trade thread, it's just me responding to others and they find me from there. No [unassigned] ones, but a lot of level 0's with private profiles - insta ignore.

Yes, I've got more than 4 requests with different names.
Once you accept, automatically sends you a message containing a screenshot link, asking you to see their items and then to make a trade.

I visit CS GO lounge a lot where there are automated bots that add people who bump their trade threads so I reckon this is the cause of most of those invites. Still, they just......don't................................ever.........................................................stop.
