It matters, people who trade check on that to see if the trader is trustworthy. I don't trade myself, but some friends of mine do.

No, people who even bother checking for +rep are dumb.
+rep comments are fucking useless and say NOTHING - only that a number of Steam accounts commented on someone's profile. NOTHING ELSE. The accounts can be alts from the same guy that he manages with a separate program / script, they can be fellow trader / scammer friends of his posting fake +rep.
There have been investigated and proven cases of fake +rep rings leaving +rep comments with the same text, alternating between accounts, on all profiles in the ring. So on one guys' profile, it would say "+rep comment 1" from user A, "+rep comment 2" from user B, and so on. Then, on user A's profile, it would have the same series of comments, only from one guy down on the list each time. So, this time, "+rep comment 1" would be posted by user B on user A's profile, "+rep comment 2" maybe by user C instead of user B this time, etc.
Also, did you know Steam has this magical feature where you can delete comments off your profile? You know, like any negative comments or -rep about how you fucked someone over?
The only things worth checking are Steamtrades (as you need a minimum account value to even be able to post positive or negative feedback on someone, decreasing the chances of feedback fraud), and Steamrep. You can use the links at the bottom right to check someone out, google them on all their info (steamID, steamID64, username, etc). +rep, once more, is goddamn ridiculous and stupid.

People who check in rep for trades are dumb.
High rep traders can still scam low rep traders, even more possible when a trader is dumb like hell and doesn't keep any sort of evidence from a trade. This can be easily achieved with foreigners.

True, they can still scam, but the people who WANT high rep, try to get it, and end up being the only people TO get it. Statistically, they are MUCH less likely to scam you than a high rep trader. High rep traders don't want to lose their rep, so they continue good trades.

I'm pretty sure rep can be easily exploited in both steamtrades and steam profile, so no point in farming rep just to try make a point clear when it still remains unclear.
If scammers were only smarter than they show themselves to be as of late, idiots would be doomed, but hey, cheap ass tricks still work these days it seems, and each time see proof of that i /facedesk completly just to point how seriously stupid this kind of stuff is and how successfull it is.

It entirely depends on who the +rep is from and not how many someone has. +Reps from known traders like yourself means more than 100 pages of no name +reps.

Meh, it doesn't take more than a few scrolls to see what's up with a person. The real trick is knowing your traders. Lots of regulars, lots of familiar faces. If you're trading games consistently, you'll eventually bump into the same names. Same with tf2/dota traders or steamgifts community members. You just build your own database and know. :)

Or, what I do, is always be polite and affable to good traders who give me decent / good prices, don't haggle in a disrespectful manner, leave a good impression, and leave them in my friends list. Then when I'm looking for something, check with them first to see if they have it or can get it for a good price, and get, well, a good price from them. In return, I offer a bit of funny chat maybe, some laughs, and I help the trader with finding customers - as in, I forward friends to them when they're looking for something. This way, there's something in it for everyone.
I help find him customers, give him some chit-chat and laughs, respectful offers, and I get good prices from someone I can trust.

I actually don't trust those users. I got a couple of +rep on my profile and I just deleted them.

Most likely tradition. Same as how people put A++++++ on an ebay feedback. It's copied and then mimicked until it becomes tradition and routine. There is also -rep showing that you were not trustworthy. It's easier for the eye to just scan a profile and catch the +rep -rep rather than reading the whole post.

Yep, just tradition. When I started trading, I didnt put +rep, just a regular comment, but since everyone does it, I conformed.

I certainly wouldn't put any value in it. I even find it a little off putting, like it would mostly be scammers that wanted it there. I guess if you check the posters and they look genuine then you could have some trust, but it's a bit like eBay not keeping score of feedback, allowing anyone to post it and letting you delete anything negative.

Easy. try to sell a activation code for a game on steam without high rep.
you will find it next to impossible for someone to trust you at that.
But a 80+ rep is different.
In my experience, i have enough rep, game time and games to be a middle man for low0tier-off-Steam-transaction, worthless than 20 USD value. But the top notch trader, the one with 5000 USD golden baby roshan in my country, can easily get high rep and be a middle man for up to 500 USD or more.

You are aware that I can get 80 people to write +rep on my profile if I needed to, right?

Yeah, especially when it comes to keys and/or PayPal.

on steamtrades, if i had to go first in a trade, i would much more trust someone with 300+rep over someone with only 2+rep
on steamprofiles, +rep means nothing really

i see it as more of a tradition. i sure as hell don't trade only through steamtrades, that's too small public to see my trades. and believe it or not, it helps. because you can check who posted +rep comments on your profile. if you have comments from big scale traders, then i assume you should have some trust?
and i bought 2 steam keys yesterday, people didn't mind going first because of my rep. so yeah, it helps.

Good thing you can't delete bad comments from your Steam profile.

+rep on a profile doesnt mean much since all the -rep can just be deleted. If trading with a high-profile steam celebrity sometimes it's neat to have public praise, but I just delete all the reps people leave me. I can point to my steamtrades if I have anything to prove.
I also try not to post a bunch of comments on peoples steam profiles because sometimes you'll get random notifications when other people comment (even if they're not your friend anymore) -- at which point I delete my +rep comment lol

I never thought about it but I only do it because I saw everyone else doing. I would much rather just press a button to uprate their rep with no comment necessary. Well if its a negative rep then maybe comment included but no need for comment on positive rep.

Especially on Steamtrades , it doesn't matter if you put a fucking +rep at the end of your positive comment on someone's profile , or is there some site that counts +reps on profiles ?
