Not sure if this was mentioned before, but considering Summer Sale will last a little over a week, how are we supposed to deal with this 7 days no trade/no market rule with all the same cads we get? E.g. I already have 3x #7 cards from only 7 crafted badges. I would rather trade or sell the mystery cards I have spare, but I wont be able to until way later during the sale.

Do you think Volvo will be nice enough to lift this rule from the mystery cards at least? And honestly, having this trading/market ban for items like emoticons and backgrounds, most of which cost 0.03, is just a major waste of time for everyone.

I think that the restriction only applies to items bought from the market. Selling your cards as soon as you get them (from drops) will still be available.

Crafting badges gives me untradable cards. I assume this is because I buy half the cards for the badge from the market, but really, this is the easiest and fastest way to craft a badge. And then I have to wait 1 week to trade the card I get...

All the time, yup. And never had them untradable for 1 day only, usually they become tradable the morning on the 7th day at a fixed time.

MysticAarrgg confirmed below it was because I used the Steam market, but really... Now we are encouraged to have alt accounts and farm cards from them it seems. If I had the needed cards traded, there wouldnt be a trading limit. Because I purchased them for ~0.2, there is. Retarded rule as hell.

Well, be smart and purchase them in advance next time. While it is indeed a bad rule, smart shall overcome adversity. Now you have experience for the next time.

Problem is, there isnt really any consistency in Steam and their events. There is absolutely no guarantee how their next sale will even work, will there be the same restrictions then too, or we will have even more. Perhaps next time there wont be even cards but something else. What I have learned from being on Steam actively for a few years, you can expect everything from them, both good and completely idiotic changes that leave you unprepared and pulling your hair out of desperation. This community items ban falls into the second category.

You are correct, if even one card is purchased from the market it will make all the rewards from crafting the badge untradable for 7 days.

The cards I got from badge crafting are trade-locked for 1 week.

Did you use cards that had been trade locked from being purchased on the market?

OH! I DIDN'T CHECK FOR THOSE! OF COURSE I DID!

The same rule applies to gems, I have a feeling that's why the Mystery cards leaked so early. Give people a chance to buy stuff to mass craft to use during the event.

Indeed. But I'm still going to buy most of the cards I need... Hope it all works out fine.

They always "leaked" around a week before sales.

I remember a few days before, but I don't remember 8+ days of them dropping before the sale.

i've never encountered this 7-day no trade / no market thing. isn't it trying to prevent people from buying with a fraudulent credit card and then dumping the items before steam could do anything about it? how did you get the cards you crafted into badges? i crafted 15 badges and was missing 2 of the mystery cards and had no problem trading the two cards i had 3 of for the two cards i didn't have. i mostly traded and saved sets until mystery cards started dropping, but i did buy 2 cards to complete 2 sets (using steam wallet funds that had been sitting a long time and came from a store-bought steam wallet card).

It is supposed to be to prevent fraud, but I wonder who will be using stolen credit cads to purchase 0.1-0,2 items from the market. Most people would use the stolen cards to purchase easily sellable things - brand new $60 AAA games or a bunch of TF2 keys. In this regard, that rule applying to trading cards is beyond retarded, as I dont think anyone ever was stupid enough to try and buy cheap community items when they risk their a**es committing a crime.

The rule applying to summer sale items which have limited longevity is just another bullshit. All my summer sale cards had 1-week trading and marketing ban because I bought half the cards from the market. People who traded for cards dont have that problem.

Drops can be sold and traded immediately including cards.

Not true, if you used the Steam Market to buy any of the cards to complete a badge.

When you craft badge from bought cards, everything what you will get from that badge have same restriction as original cards. Even gems from broken things will have that restriction.

Planning: Buy cards at least week before sale ends.

So...is the consensus that it's best to craft our badges now before the sale starts, or wait until it starts?
I didn't even know the Mystery cards were available via badge crafting until just now.

I think it's best to wait for the sale. I heard that sometimes there are special events for crafting =)

I agree, and that's what I've done. But when I saw that the Mystery Cards were dropping, I had to craft one.

I do think it would be funny if Steam screwed with everybody by only having the cards drop BEFORE the sale. Nerd rage would abound (including mine).

Doubt it, they want people to use the market after all, not rage about it. :)

Turn them into gems. You get extremely little, but on the other hand you still get something.

If there is a bidding event again, but not sure there will be one. I dont really need the gems for anything else.

You can make (and sell or use) booster packs. But you probably know this.

By the time the booster packs sell, the sale will probably be over. There are some items which are extremely unpopular and take ages to sell.

The ones that drop from votes and game purchases will still be tradable/marketable.

If you buy any card from the market and create a badge with the untradable included it will make anything received from badge creation untradable.

What you need to do is adjust your strategy. Turn to trading more to get spare cards you need. If you have cards from a badge you are not going to create, use those to get ones you need. Besides your friends, you can always try trading card bots, and there are steam groups devoted to cards. Even the game's own Steam forum will likely have a trading discussion group. Its a pain in the ass, but thats how it goes.
