"Today’s update expands on your Profile Privacy Settings Page, giving you more control over the privacy of your Steam account. With more detailed descriptions of what profile information is included in each category, you will be able to manage how you are viewed by your friends, or the wider Steam Community.

You can now select who can view your profile’s “game details”; which includes the list of games you have purchased or wishlisted, along with achievements and playtime. This setting also controls whether you’re seen as “in-game” and the title of the game you are playing.

Additionally, regardless of which setting you choose for your profile’s game details, you now have the option to keep your total game playtime private. You no longer need to nervously laugh it off as a bug when your friends notice the 4,000+ hours you've put into Ricochet.

Looking ahead a little, we are also working on a new “invisible” mode in addition to the already existing “online”, “away” and “offline” presence options. If you choose to set yourself to invisible, you’ll appear as offline, but you’ll still be able to view your friends list, send and receive messages. Sometimes you’re feeling social, and sometimes you’re not; this setting should help Steam users be social on their own terms. We hope to have this feature ready for beta release soon.

Like many Steam features, these privacy options come directly from user feedback. If you would like to join that conversation, as always, we welcome you to visit the Steam Discussions and add your feedback."

Other than it breaking Steamgifts wishlists, what do you think about it ?

TL;DR go here, change "Game details" to "Public", sync with SG again to get your WISHLIST back on Steamgifts.

Check and uncheck "Always keep my total playtime private even if users can see my game details", that will update your settings.

Valve never disappoints at fucking stuff up sigh. That said I am looking forward to get the "invisible" mode so I don't have to deal with the annoyance that is chatting in offline mode.

Steam sets "game details" to private by default. This is going to break sgtools for everyone because sgtools can no longer see what games we own.

Huh, okay then. I don't actually understand why someone would want to hide the hours spent but I guess it's a useful feature if people are into it. Though it makes me wonder if this'll create trouble with people calling others cheaters if they have their games set to public so people can see they have achievements on it but then hours is set to private, that would make it look like the person just used cheats to get all the achievements.

I'm hoping they'll add an option to make friends list friends-only soon.

How nice it would be if they worked on their search/browse feature instead of fixing what ain't broken. Finding a person or a group is still next to impossible, so is comfortably browsing games on the Steam client.

Oh, so this is why Astats kept reporting that I didn't own a game... why have the game detail one set to "friends only" by default? Silly Valve.

The only feature I want to see them working on is the ability to actually delete previous aliases.

Actually, the bigger problem is that we can't even check our winners to see if they have any non-activated wins or multi-wins, just like a private profile. We'll have to make a friend request to winners with default privacy settings so that we can make that check (Edit: or ask support to check), and request a reroll if necessary. (Edit: then ask support again to check to see that they activated it after they marked Received).

That's a huge burden, and I can't imagine doing public giveaways anymore. Am I missing something?

Multi wins should not change, since it's not really Steam related. It's related to SG, if they won the same game multiple times.
Non activated wins will be the issue for SGTools. Since unless the user has everything to public, SGTools will not be able to check.

Correct about multi-wins. My bad.
SGTools actually isn't a problem, if I understand correctly, because they simply won't pass the test if SGTools isn't able to check. The user can temporarily set to public if they wish in order to pass the check.

I'm more concerned with non-SGTools giveaways, where you have to ask Support to check every winner for non-activations, then ask Support to check again after winners mark Received, to see if they actually activated it. Big hassle for everybody.

I usually checked every winner to see if they have the game they won and take a print screen of it. Now that will be hard to so since I won't be able to check anymore.

I have been burned before with someone that didn't had the game when I checked, I sent the key, they asked for a re-roll and when the new winner said the key was used. Guess what? When I checked the initial winner games, (s)he now had the game on steam. That's why I started to take print screens of every single one.

Now I wonder if that happened, if the green eye of that shows up next to the key would be enough for support, back then it wasn't implemented yet.

How odd! Why would the winner request a reroll in that scenario if he/she intended to activate the game? Just to keep one's win count down artificially, while creating a big headache for the GA creator, Support, and the rerolled winner? Maybe he changed his mind??

I guess you can look at the key and still legitimately request a reroll, right? Maybe you even try to activate it and the dup key makes you realize you already have the game.

I don't know why (s)he did it.
I'm thankful that it was not an expensive game and I was able to get another key to give to the new winner, otherwise I would have a "not received" mark.

With the eye feature, if you ask for a re-roll and it has the eye, make sure to say it in the ticket to support. It's what I do now, so that support is aware that the key was seen by who is asking for the re-roll. And if the new winner says that they key was already used, you can point to the previous winner that saw the key and might have activated it somewhere else. Since I did not have an issue like that since, I don't know what would be the support answer to that situation, maybe delete the giveaway? Or undo the reroll and force the feedback as received?

That issue that I had made me take more preventive measures to avoid having a similar thing in the future, they are annoying since I need to take print screens of winners before sending a key, so sometimes I get lazy about doing GAs due to having to take print screens after. T_T

Support told me they can check that info so, if your winner has those privacy settings enabled, you can ask for a reroll and they will check it for you. There's no need to add anyone to Steam to send a key.

Correct, but that's one support request to ask them to check my winner, and another support request to ask them to check that they actually activated it after they marked Received. Seems like it would be a lot easier if they simply required the setting to be public.

Before this change you needed to do the same thing when a winner had a private profile. The best solution was proposed several times in the forum. Upvote this thread for example if you agree with that.

Anyway, I bet most members will enable games visibility to use the "wishlist" feature from the public giveaways.

Yes, but there were a lot fewer users who manually set a completely private profile, than users who don't bother to change the new default privacy setting (or don't know about it).

Probably, time will say. If support tickets increase with these changes they could implement features like the one I linked in my previous comment.

Yeah, I think support is banking on people changing the setting to public so they don't have to re-sync every week, but I think the rule-breakers will be less inclined to do so, so that they can't be checked for non-activations without a support request. I don't understand why SG rules here seem designed to help rule-breakers.

I probably won't be making many more public giveaways.

i might even stop sending tickets to check winners, since this isn't ga-creator friendly at all.

I check everybody, groups included. I noticed last night that i couldn't check non-activated or winners libraries (to avoid the dreaded reroll mainly) on some multi group GAs and now i know why, I guess. This is a major pain in the butt, since most groups require public profiles, everyone in them will have to be notified I suppose. And I wonder how this is going to affect groups like PA that rely on transparency to track gameplay statistics?

Yes, I would think that Actually Playing Games and Playing Appreciated would have to require that setting be public.
I check winners of group GAs also-- fortunately have never been let down by a groupmate yet! :)

That might be STM related, since it's not a new issue.
I had that issue multiple times and it sometimes takes a few days to go away.

Edit: Decided to test it out. I logged in just fine and ran a scan with no issues now, however the cards images were not showing up, but everything else was working fine.

Edit 2: Oh, there was an issue a few days ago about an update which cause OpenID settings to be updated on sites that had Steam logins.

The issue is fixed on STM.
Initially I thought you were having this issue, which tells you that you have a private profile, even when you don't. Which is quite annoying.

These new privacy settings just makes some profiles look stellar. If you hide your games, disable profile comments, and never bother with showcases, the entire thing is just one large empty block and a long-ass sidebar.
