I'd rather have them destroy a toy I bought than my wall (seriously, they've brought down big chunks of my wallpaper, the corner around their tree looks horrible - I'm pretty sure I won't get my deposit back when I move out). I live in the city, so I can't let them out (lost too many cats that way when I was younger).
Also, I play with them a lot, with bought as well as homemade (=random packaging etc.) toys, but sometimes they're not interested, or I get bored sooner than they do and pretty much just move the thing back and forth, so they're not interested anymore. I'd love to have something that simulates prey and gets them more active (don't really care about the tracking aspect of this, but a cat-proof thing that moves on its own or I can move via remote/my phone would be awesome).
I agree on the ridiculousness regarding the pricing though, not many people will pay the retail price they're aiming at for after the campaign ($100 for ONE toy? Yeah, nope.)

I get you, you could buy a remote mouse?(That could make things even more messy). Well, I have a dog and he doesn't accept playing with anyone or anything but me or my brother(sometimes my father too). Having a cat is like raising a kid, with superpowers.

At least you can go outside with your dog and let him run around, can't do that with my cats. I had a cheap wind-up mouse for a while, they gnawed off the string to wind it up (and it just hobbled about for a few seconds, not very exciting). They unfortunately also don't really go for laserpointers anymore :(
Considering the price cuts during the campaign, with postage this toy comes to about the same price as 2-3 cheap remote mice, and all the ones I've seen have pretty bad ratings (even pricier ones), so I'd rather wait for this one with different modes ^^

That sounds convenient to do. It's harder to have a dog, you just can't imagine how exciting he gets just when I stand next to the door thinking it's time for a walk :/. And he's rather big, he jumps and usually hurts me with his claws(most of the time it's on my face -_-)

Oh, I've lived with dogs, and I'm really not a dog person. Since I was the only one at home during the day for a while, I had to go on walks with them a lot. I'm glad they were cat-sized though :P Now I work from home, so just taking short breaks and going out would be more convenient for me than trying to entertain them all the time ^^
Also, this is not a contest, but I think we're tied either way, both have pros and cons :P

I know this isn't contest, it's just everyone has his preferences. I've tried dogs and cats and I personally prefer dogs as real pets. They're just dedicatedo you and can actually listen to you(My mother loves cats and she hated the dog when my brother first brough him, then she got attached to him because he's so smart and actually listens to her and now she says she'd never let him go or give him up). Cats are funnier and give you warm feelings though.

Where I live there's currently a commercial for a dog food that claims "give your dog the life he dreams of". I guess appealing to anthropizing side of cat and dog owners must move stuff.
What's ironic, of course, is that everyone should know very well you can't make someone exercise if they don't want to in the first place, and that much is true of pets and humans alike.
What may be even more ironic is that mostly everybody entertains the idea of cat as the archetypal animal that only does what they want, when they want. Hence the idiomatic expression "herding cats".

Cats are just plain dumb. They're just "natural'. I never buy dog food for my dog, it's just stupid to do so. I feed him once a day, sometimes an extra meal if he does something veeery good. And he loves the food, he even asks for more sometimes.

indoor cats need tons of exercise - I have 2, one of them is fine, but the other one is slower/more thoughtful while playing and put on some weight over the years (not fat yet, but getting there). The second one likes to watch more and pounce after a while, but usually takes too long and the other one jumps in (and runs and jumps and so on...), and the (not yet) fat one just watches him play then.
The main selling point for me is the different modes according to the cat's play style (I don't know how many "styles" I can simulate) and that it can move on its own (e.g. play with the slower cat while the other one is sleeping in another room, without waking him up because I'm moving)

I acccept that it may not be for all cats (like I said above, mine aren't really into laserpointers like a lot of cats, and I have more toys they're not interested in), but generally, mine like randomly moving things, and it comes with attachments, so I'm guessing/hoping that there are ways to make it more interesting to them (the attachments have to go somewhere, so maybe I can attach other things if they don't like the standard feathers).
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that all cats like playing, usually they're just too lazy and/or the toy isn't interesting enough. Mine definitely come and bug me all the time to play or cuddle. I already do clicker training with the more active one (funnily enough, the "fat" one isn't into treats except for vitamin paste, so again, she just watches), and the standard throwing things across the room and waving feathers on a stick around, but it's not enough. (have some other "activity" toys they sometimes use, but also not enough)
But enough about my cats, let's just agree that any toy can seem great when you buy it and in the end the cat may not be interested in it at all (and then you just give it to someone else who has cats and maybe they like it ^^)
And of course, if you don't think it's right for your cat, or you don't have a cat, no one's forcing you to buy it or even think that it's great, I just wanted to share it to a wider audience than my few Facebook friends (only a few of them have cats), and share some forum gibs :)

that's why I'm interested in it - I work from home, so I'm there most of the time, and they tend to get really annoying right around deadlines, when I really need to stay at the computer and work (how do they do that?!), so it would be cool to have something to keep them occupied for a little bit.
As for the string debate, it comes with attachments, I'm sure you could also tie a regular piece of string to it ^^

eating less isn't always healthy (depending on where you start), eating right & exercising would be better advice ;)
Cat gyms sound fun, but I'm not carrying my fat monsters there every week :P (note: they aren't fat, or monsters, but I'm not strong, so the feel heavy to me in their boxes, and they hate those boxes and get really unpleasant when they have to be in there)

that's mental exercise then, concentrating on the ball :P
Mine like playing with a ping pong ball sometimes, so I'm pretty sure they'll use this as well, looks about the same size (and for this I don't have to throw it, go get it, throw it again etc. all the time ^^)

hm, don't know - it certainly didn't move as much as I would've liked, but then they're still in the development stage, and it definitely did the "move when touched" thing it's supposed to do - it could've been just a delay and cut out (maybe it moved a few seconds later, but the cat wasn't interested anymore, so they cut and inserted a bit where the cat played with it again?)

Ooh, looks nice :) I'm always looking for cat toys that my cats won't eat and kill themselves on.
I also have one of these: http://onefastcat.com/

So, last week someone posted on here about some game subscription thing on Indiegogo. I don't think anyone contributed, but I still checked it out and saw this at the bottom of the page: RollyCat: Fitness Tracker and Smart Toy for Cats
I doubt it'll do everything they're promising, but it still looks cool and I would like the campaign to succeed. So I hope you'll take a look , even if it's just for the photoshopped cats doing fitness exercises (I admit, that's the main reason I checked it out), and maybe contribute or pass the link along (they also have a referral promo, so if you have enough people you can get via Facebook or Twitter etc, you can get a free RollyCat ;) )
They're currently going at a steady pace of 2% per day, but that's not quite enough (it's a fixed funding goal, so there's not really any risk, everyone gets their money back if it doesn't succeed)
Okay, I'll stop talking now, here's some games ...
Never Alone Arctic Collection (L2+)
TransOcean: The Shipping Company (L3+)
Door Kickers (L4+)
