There has been barely any light-hearted discussions here on SG lately, so I wanted to break the ice and talk about one of my favorite game genres, racing. I do all kinds of racing, sim racing, destruction derby racing, arcade racing and it is all good fun! This discussion was born when I saw a giveaway for Grid (2019) Ultimate Edition, which peaked my interest in the Grid franchise again, since I don't own any previous or current titles I have nothing to say about it so I did some digging. I have been interested in the Grid franchise before but not as deeply as currently. From the Grid games I was only interested in Grid (2008) and Grid (2019), the more recent titles look too realistic in my opinion to feel like an arcade racing game. Mainly why I prefer Grid (2008) over Grid (2019) is the damage model and physics, which from gameplay footage I enjoy a lot more, there is also some sort of different aspect to the game Grid (2019) didn't have but I guess that's cool. Too bad Grid (2008) is like 50€ on the gray market, unfortunate.

Enough about Grid, I enjoy other racing games too! I mostly like games with car explosions and crashes and it excites me a lot more to see professional craftsmanship destroyed for whatever reason, here are my top favorite picks for racing games!

  1. Assetto Corsa Competizone Has Wheel Support
I am not much of a sim racer in my opinion, I don't play all these Assetto Corsa's and iRacing's but this one was fun, I've sometimes just felt the need to drive a fast car. With Assetto Corsa Competizone I just take my racing wheel out and I pull out a random race track and I just cruise and drive around, hitting the gas as hard as I can while listening to Korn or something, pretty stress relieving! I am not sure about the technicalities or anything but for just a racing game on your own, it is very cool!

  2. BeamNG.drive Has Wheel Support
If this game, well not necessarily even a game, I would just call this a physics simulation software is familiar to you by name or by other means you know how cool this game is. The way the cars crash is incredible, I love everything about it. This is honestly an alternative for Assetto Corsa Competizone for me, because in this game I just like to drive around during sunset with my very average car, listen to some Rush and zone out, it's a very euphoric experience. This is a game where my computer actually struggles to run sometimes, although it is largely my fault because I have absolutely every setting in existence on the maximum. Probably my favorite part of the game is police chases, you can either chase an enemy or you can get chased by a police car and I find both very fun to do when I am bored. Although BeamNG.drive offers little content in terms of story and missions it is a lot more fun in sandbox.

  3. Burnout™ Paradise Remastered No Wheel Support
First off, this game might not work through Steam, since this game was published by Electronic Arts, you already know what to expect. From the first second you start the game (when it starts) you can hear the sweet sound of Paradise City by Guns N' Roses and the beautiful Paradise City title screen, which is the name of the city in the game, I could sit at the title screen for hours if I wanted to. The game has a great console release on the PlayStation 4 which I played the crap out of with a friend. This might be one of the most fun racing games ever since it's so arcade-y and fast paced. The main charm of the game is its open world aspect, every race has absolutely no correct path and you can choose whatever path to the destination you want, it is so cool to find shortcuts and do tricks and just piss off those nasty enemy CPU's. What I love even more about this game is the car selection, there is truly something for every taste. Personally I use the black Chevrolet Camaro, which has served me well as it is a high top speed oriented car. My favorite part has to be how you unlock cars, to be able to unlock the car that you have available to you through licenses and races have to be taken down by crashing them, they will randomly appear on the road and you must catch up and destroy them, I love this part of the game and it is done really well. The most fun type of race in my opinion is the takedown race where you have to destroy X amount of cars in a given amount of time, they get harder as you get higher level licenses but they always stay fresh. I recommend getting this on a sale for 4,99€ just in case the game doesn't work, there are guides how to get it running and I managed to get it running fine. Just be careful and be ready to refund it when needed.

  4. FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage Collector's Edition No Wheel Support
This game got the Colletor's Edition update about a month ago at the time of writing this, they completely removed Windows Live from the game which was a service that was shut down a long time ago and it was just an annoyance since it didn't actually do anything. They even added achievements and made it Steam Deck verified which is so freaking cool. Some might say FlatOut 2 was better than FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage and it is probably true, however for some reason I enjoyed this title more. This game is pretty old, but it has aged well and I still play it from time to time, very fun! I enjoy the different challenges and destruction derby missions and they are pretty difficult but I can always manage, there are like powerups and stuff and it is a blast. There is also some career mode I haven't gotten into yet but I've only heard good about it. I recommend getting this game, true cult classic.

  5. Wreckfest Has Wheel Support
Wreckfest is developed by the same people who made FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage and that's basically all you need to know, they did an amazing job. This game tries to imitate realistic damage physics as well as a sim racing aspect which it balances perfectly in my opinion. The cars have a ton of customization, maybe not as much as for example Need For Speed games but it is great, you can make you car look any way you want. This game has multiplayer and I enjoy just hopping into a random server with no rules and trying to survive the oncoming buses with giant rams in the front trying to wreck my ice cream truck. You heard me right, there is an ice cream truck in the game, however not everything is sunshine and rainbows, some cool cars are all locked behind DLC packs and it is unfortunate, but they don't give you an advantage since the cars only really matter by what's inside and you can get by with just base game cars, that's why I recommend waiting for a sale and getting the complete edition, I just can't live without the ice cream truck. There is something in the game called tournaments which are basically seasons of new cars you can unlock exclusively using the points you gather by doing daily, weekly and monthly challenges however DLC's unlock more races to do so it is pretty Pay 2 Win. You can get very cool cars from the tournaments and they do compensate not being able to drive all the DLC cars if you don't have them. I prefer this over FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage but that is my own honest opinion.

If you could share me and others some of your favorite racing games too I haven't listed above you are free to do so. Racing games are fun man, I love them so much, ever since I played all those free bootleg racing flash games it hasn't been the same. Week is almost over, enjoy your upcoming weekend guys!

Crashday Redline Edition

Mix between Trackmania & Flatout, 30+ levels, arcade game, but pretty fun and challenging, track editor and car to download on the workshop

Hotshot Racing
77% positive - 990 reviews
A nice short arcade racing on 20 tracks, 32 cars, pretty short, but was free on Fanatical so high chance you already have it :)

Nail'd
80% positive - 980 reviews
A moto / quad game focused on speed, really nice track design, 14 differents tracks, often on sale for 1 $/€.

Turbo Golf Racing
88% positive - 470 reviews
For people that want Rocket League but with a golf gameplay, high content (many cosmetics, 50+ levels), New content added recently (on April 4th - 2024)

Truck Racer
81% positive - 150 reviews
Nice arcade style game on 10 zones and 48 tracks variations, was on indiegala gameplay giveaways so still pretty cheap actually.

I should really try Automobilista, I got a bunch of racing games in a bundle not too while back and I just don't have the patience to wait for a 100 GB download, I heard it's pretty alright I suppose. I've wanted to try Trail Out the most from this list and I never got around to actually buying the game. Not a big fan of drifting that much so rFactor 2 and Drif CE remains unplayed in my library...

I'm not much into racing games, though I used to play Gran Turismo on PS1 as an adolescent. But there are two games I've loved (recommended to me by a friend) later on, and they are Burnout Paradise that you mentioned already, and Wipeout Pulse.

90 comments in less than a day...
I always loved NFS Most Wanted Black Edition (2005). I've played it to 100% like 10-12 times on PS2 and PC. Once I lost the fingerprints in one part of my right thumb for having pressing the A button for so long. I thought it was a greatly designed world, just a bit small. Now I'm playing Forza Horizon 4 and it's 80 square kilometers with 200 kilometers of road. I've been playing non-stop for 3 months every day, and I've squeezed the most of the main map and the Fortuna Island expansion. Lego expansion is the next. However some stuff is left, mainly drifting because I suck at it in every game which has real drifting (NFS MW for example, had inverse drifting.) I consider FH4 an arcade racing with some sim elements, but arcade nonetheless. It has a good balance between arcade fun and no arcade dumb.

I also played GRID but by then I was kinda bad in it. Before Assetto Corsa Competizione, which I've not played yet, I've played a lot of Assetto Corsa, with wheel. My first real sim with wheel. What a great experience. The problem? AC is a real great simulator, I think it gives a feel very realisting (my wheel has force feedback). But it's wrapped in a very bad game. You can skip training and qualifying sessions, you can't save and continue later, the graphic engine only has one light source at a time (so bad night racing) and more stuff. The challenges were very fun and custom races could be too if you can fine-tune the AI strenght so you can win without being frustrating.

The only game I've played more than NFS MW was F1 Grand Prix (1993) by Microprose. How much fun I had with that game. Hours to no end, championship after championship, fighting against myself if I could scratch some miliseconds from my Mexico qualifying record... Not to count modding it with the real season pilots and giving them more power than me so I wouldn't lap every car twice on Monaco. Those where the times, with keyboard.

I also like top-down simple racers. I clearly remember Slick'n Slide, simple game, tons of fun, very customizable, easy to create new vehicles and physics. Death Rally, of course, was a staple of these racing games. Ironman's Super Off-road was so fun with a friend too. I've played dozens of racing games since I got my first computer in 1988.

In my backlog I also have Automobilista 1 & 2 which seem to be great sims and great games as well, but I think I'll go to ACC first after some rest from FH4. And more racing games, too many.

Is 90 comments in a day a lot? I don't know, I suppose I am a pillar of the community.

Is Forza Horizon 4 that good? Is it significantly better than Forza Horizon 5? I am thinking which game to get if I do get one, but I have no idea which is better in terms of customization, cars and map size and of course gameplay, what would you recommend if you've played both? They are both also really expensive games which means I probably won't get them in the near future.

I was never a big fan of racing simulators that tried to be super duper realistic, I like realism but for the fun of it y'know? I don't really care about all this tire pressures stuff and all the suspension or whatever. I do hope I can try Race Driver Grid (2008) someday too, it sounds like an awesome game.

I don't hear anything except Most Wanted, Most Wanted, Most Wanted, MOST WANTED. I need to play it, I really do. I need to understand why it is so good and why it is timeless.

Both are good. A lot of car collecting, many race tracks, some activities, customisable, but Forza in general doesn't have cops. Arcade, but realistic graphics and a rather serious tone (proper racing, no crash fest, no exaggerated stuff). Add-ons like Lego or Hot Wheels are more about arcade fun stuff (still realistic physics though).
FH5's map is a bit bigger and by now it has more cars than FH4. Story and atmosphere wise I liked 4 more, but that could also just be, because it was my first real Forza. Contrary to FH4 FH5 doesn't have ranks for PvP anymore.
If you decide to get one of both soon, you should get FH4 first, because weekly Forzathon will be shut down at some point and a bit later it will get delisted because of licenses. Forza without the weekly Forzathon would make it more difficult to obtain cars and player numbers will drop, thus you'll have less fun with it. Happened to FH3.

I've not played FH5 yet. However, FH4 has a long list of annoyances for me (including too many music cuts, apparently you can have many houses but none of them is equipped with a sound system or a simple radio). But for me the final straw for FH4 is a bug which leaves you without backstage passes to buy some exclusive cars, and they are expensive in auctions. There are not too many bugs, but the annoyances and questionable design decisions and missing things which in such a big game should have been easy to implement makes it a sweet-sour experience. I keep having fun for it, but I kinda regret spending 34€ in a game with bugs that will not be fixed ever (official statement, btw). It could have been a near perfect 10/10 racing experience, but I really have times where I pull my hair with it. I recommend spending that much money in another racing game, as simple as that.

I hope FH5 is better, but I don't know yet.

I do love me some racing! I guess I originally got sort of "into it", in a just playing for the fun of it sort of way, back in the day, with simulator style games like Nascar on N64/PC and Viper Racing (this was an awesome game!), and arcade style games like Monster Truck Madness 2, Midtown Madness, and Motocross Madness. I even put Monster Truck Madness 2 on all of the school PCs, and me and friends would play after getting our stuff done. =P It was a lot of chaotic fun!

But, these days, I'm more into sims, like iRacing! I love the difficulty and being put up against some tough competition! Racing the Ray FF1600 and doing some Rally Cross are my favorite things to do on there. =) The new rain update has been awesome as hell in the FF1600, but it's really difficult to be fast.

I've gotten away from the arcade style, and even most sim-cade style, games, though. It's not that I can't enjoy them, I just haven't found anything that really draws me in, like the original GRID did. THAT was a great game. But, it's also just so frustrating playing most things online because of how brain-dead (and/or incredibly pathetic) most people are, on almost ANY racing games, but it's much, much worse on the arcade side of things.. UUGGHH! Everyone treats them like a demolition derby, so trying to race clean-ish and fair is a nightmare. =( I don't mind some contact, but, come on!

Here are some of my favorite racing games from over the years:

Simulation

  • iRacing
This is absolutely THE best sim for competitive racing. It's also great for learning how to race properly, and alongside others at your skill level. Although there are still dipshits around, this also has the cleanest matchmaking-based racing you can find!
  • MX Bikes
Holy cow, the people that play this are really good... But, this dirt bike sim is really freaking awesome for racing, and just to rip around on!
  • eSail
While this mostly isn't a platform for racing, and, instead, is more about learning about sail boats and sailing properly, there is a racing side to the sim, and it's really, really fun to race a sail boat in a sim environment. You can also just sail-about in the eSail world with others. A lot of people from the community are active sailors! I also run the Discord for this game, so, that's cool. =P
  • GT Legends
I never got to play this online, but the career mode with these classic cars is both hard and a lot of fun!
  • Viper Racing
  • VRC PRO
It may be another different type of racing, but RC sim racing is also a lot of fun, and much harder than you might think!
  • Sega GT
  • Richard Burns Rally

Sim-cade

  • GRID
This one was a lot of fun online, despite all the morons that played it. =P The career was also enjoyable! GRID 2 was ok, but it was a let-down in probably every way, compared to the first.
  • Dirt Rally/2.0
  • Monster Truck Madness 2
I had a great time playing this with friends, despite the janky lag-fest that it could become (even through LAN). It actually made it a lot more fun, in ways!

Arcade

  • Blur
It was such a fun game to play split-screen and online! The power-ups were pretty neat to have in a game like this.
  • NFS Underground 2
  • Road Rash
It's great fun playing single player, but the multiplayer was where it was at!
  • Wave Race/1080 Snowboarding/Diddy Kong Racing

It makes me sad that no one else had mentioned iRacing. =(

These are some exceptional titles you have mentioned, I am really interested in MX Bikes and VRC PRO, they look like so much good fun.

I believe why iRacing is so overshadowed and why I haven't been able to play it myself is the amount of money it costs, I suppose it limits the player base to people who actually want to race competitively or something but come on, I can't afford a monthly subscription service.

I feel like how GRID 2 failed the most was that there was no cockpit view and the damage physics model was greatly reduced and there was none of that managing thing that was in the first game. I wish I could play Racedriver GRID (2008), it seems so cool as well.

Yup, lots of good stuff there! =)

What are you using for a wheel/setup? =O
I'm using a crappy wheel stand at my desk, with my G29 and shifter, but I replaced my malfunctioning pedals with Sim Jack Pros, which are pretty cool. =D

If you have any kind of interest in dirt bikes or RC cars, both of those sims are probably worth getting into, especially if you have any friends who you could also hop online with! You can even use a wheel with MX Bikes and RC controllers with VRC Pro, but I just use a gamepad for both. MX Bikes also has a great modding community, and the online sessions are all ran with some modified versions of the bikes, and there are also tons of pieces of gear to check out, if you want to customize your rider.

Here's the demo for MX Bikes. Try it out, it's awesome! Just be prepared to wreck... a lot. =P:
http://www.mx-bikes.com/?page=downloads
VRC Pro used to have a free version on their site, but, I'm not sure if it's still a thing. Here's the main site, anyway!:
https://www.vrcworld.com/default.aspx

But, as with any other sims, they do require a lot of practice, if you want to start taking them somewhat seriously-ish, to race others online, which I do recommend! (in VRC Pro, races are against others set times, with ghost cars available for the race, and you can practice against them). You can still have a good time with either sim if you just want to do practice sessions or hop on a track by yourself for fun. There are basically no people doing online practice on VRC Pro these days, but you can have a lot of fun with that on MX Bikes! A lot of people just like to tear around the track and do tricks and stuff. =P

The cost of iRacing is definitely a concern, especially if you're paying monthly (that is not the way to go!). But, really, you don't have to spend too much to have, essentially, unlimited fun with the base content. During the sale at the end of the year, members can get a subscription for around $80 year/$150 two years (USD). New members get a pretty nice 1 time discount when subscribing anytime - $66 year/$120 2 years, but you could also use that to get a cheap 3 month subscription, just to check things out, when you feel that you're ready.
So far, I haven't purchased any other cars or tracks, but, I've been wanting to! I'm just a cheap-ass, so I hate spending money. =P

But, for sure, stick with ACC, until you start getting more comfortable with that. Just driving around like a maniac can be fun, but it's also quite fun to put some good practice in, and seeing yourself improve! I don't know if ACC has practice lobbies, but something like that would be great for learning, if you want to take things to the next level. =)
I have the base game of ACC, but I've never tried it out. I might have to do that sometime.

I recently got a G923 racing wheel and pedals and they have served me well, I don't have any shifters or hand brakes yet but I might intend on getting them soon if I ever also decide to get a dedicated metal cockpit for mounting the wheel and pedals on the frame. I've also tried a G27 which is really old but it felt quite alright, so I can only assume the G29 is a big improvement. Why I decided to get a G923 in the first place is that it is supposed to be a little better than the G29 and I could get the G923 just a little bit more expensive than a G29 (20-ish bucks more) and it was worth it in my opinion, it feels a lot more like a wheel rather than just a toy.

I really seem interested in MX Bikes but I'd probably just get VRC Pro for the fun of it, seems kind of funny and goofy to have fun with from time to time.

I am probably staying away from iRacing, too expensive for me and also just too professional and competitive for my taste, I just like to have fun after all.

You should totally try to play ACC, it is quite fun. I am not that great at it but I do enjoy putting on some music and racing, I am a racist at heart and gripping the wheel and overtaking is just such a vibe. I do enjoy Wreckfest the most and the car crashes are still my favorite. BeamNG.drive is cool as well for that same reason, just rear ending someone in traffic is just too funny. Glad you could shed some of your racist wisdom and share me some of your favorite racing games, MX Bikes is now in my wishlist. :)

A nice full rig would be so awesome to have, and I'm so tempted to invest into it. =P It's nice at least having a wheel stand of some kind, though, so you can keep everything together and move them out of the way somewhat easily, but the type with the bar in between your legs kind of sucks (like what I have). I don't exactly recommend it, but for $150, it works alright enough. A proper wheel stand for $100 more would be the better buy, though.

But, yeah, the Logitech wheels are pretty decent, they just haven't improved them a whole lot over the years. I had a G27 that failed on me some years ago, and I got the G29 to replace it with under warranty, and I like it well enough; sucked that my throttle pedal went bad on me, though.. I'm curious about the True Force on the G923, though! Does ACC or BeamNG have support for it? I hear that it's not the greatest on that wheelbase, but it's actually supposed to be pretty nice on the Direct Drive Logitech G Pro!

I will have to get on ACC at some point. I just have no experience with these modern GT cars. I'll feel like a complete noob all over again. =P
Have you tried out the first AC? I've been thinking about trying to get into that for some drifting (haven't done that since the Gran Turismo 5 days). I don't know if there is a drifting scene on ACC, but I doubt it. You might enjoy that, though, especially with some great music to go with it!

Definitely make sure to play that MX Bikes demo! Get your friends over and take turns with it. You'll have a great time. =)

There are those foldable racing wheel stands and those stands that only connect the wheel and pedals for example, I haven't looked into all these different frames at all so I don't really know how cheap or good they are. I might have to get one someday just so I can pick up racing more often.

I've tried the true force feedback, the game that definitely supports it is ACC and honestly, the True Force is actually pretty alright, I wouldn't call it good but I can definitely feel the rough edges of the road and I can almost feel like the car engine is shaking my wheel, it is really immersive. Not something I would buy a G923 wheel for but it is a nice bonus. Most games don't support it so you really wouldn't get the wheel just for that.

I have tried to play the first AC but I never got into it, mainly because everything was too complicated and crap. ACC was a lot more user friendly and I had a lot more fun while just racing freely on a track in ACC. I should try drifting in AC, could be pretty fun.

I don't really have friends who want to play racing games with me so I think that will have to be on the shelf for now, but I am sure I could enjoy playing it alone too, the game looks really fun especially if you have to balance yourself onto the bike.

Start off with Sega Rally Championship and been liking the genre since then albeit I'm more into the arcadey style.
Burnout Revenge is my favorite among the series releases.
Motorstorm is awesome for the off road stuffs.
NFS Heat is a good one for me, but I can't say the same to Unbound, it was ok at least, I guess.
Gran Turismo is a franchise that cars enthusiast should give a try.
Ride series for me is like GT but for motorcycles, not as grand tho.
Like the other, Mario or Sonic Kart game is my jam too, the new Crash Team Racing is nice as well.

Oh boy, Burnout Revenge was freaking SICK! I do think I prefer that over Burnout Paradise a little bit, the speed in that game is a lot more exciting. NFS hasn't satisfied or impressed me ever, they are just mediocre racing games nowadays. I've heard only good things about older titles and I enjoyed NFS Hot Pursuit on the PS3 a lot but that's about it, any other installment either I haven't wanted to try or didn't enjoy. I've seen Ride games on sale often but I am not that much into motorcycles to pay a lot of money for a motorcycle racing game.

I love Mario Kart, Mario Kart Wii is the bomb. I have never screamed that much in my life over Baby Peach, screw her honestly, screw her and her blue shells and target shocks.

I've enjoyed Burnout: Paradise (original), Road Rash and Carmageddon (original). Would like to try the remastered versions of them. My friend's dad worked on Carmageddon.

That's sick, if you don't want to mess with the EA launcher I wouldn't bother getting Burnout Paradise Remastered. It took me 10 minutes to launch Burnout today, horrible.

I do enjoy racing games, mostly older ones and various arcade style games. The Burnout series, Outrun series, Midnight Club series, could go on. Just a shame I can't get most of the ones I enjoy on Steam as well.

Older racing games are and will stay relevant as long as nothing more innovative comes out. There just isn't that many new titles on the market that had the same charm as all these Twisted Metals and Crashdays had, people need to understand racing in general isn't just an automobile simulator, it is still a video game! So why don't people release their creative abilities and make something...Burnout-y again. That would be cool, I think?

My first love was for F-Zero (1990) on SNES, then SuperMarioKart (1992) , Megarace (1993) on 486dx , and the legendaries Wipeout 2097 , Destruction Derby 2 (1996) V-Rally, Gran Turismo (1997) on PS1. These four games were stunning at the time they were released. Never got hooked on NFS games despite several attempts. After abandoning the world of video games for almost 15 years, I've been having fun lately with Horizon Chase Turbo, Redout which remind me of Wipeout, Road Redemption. I tried Flatout but couldn't deal with resolution, menus, controls so I gave up. Hotshot Racing was good but nothing more. I think I cant anymore reconciliate myself with some subgenres. May be too much nostalgic of 90' games. But I take a look for all suggestions on the thread in the hope of finding a game that will thrill me again

I'd give Road Rash a try if you haven't already, I think you'd enjoy it a lot. Road Rash 2 seems pretty cool if you can find it somewhere, they are older titles from the Sega Genesis era but I am sure you can get them somewhere. I do keep coming back to older and older racing game titles, I still can't get enough of Burnout Paradise: Remastered and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage. Nothing new has come out nowadays that would peak my interest so much that I would shed my money on. You should definitely look around, people have suggested quite a few cool and interesting titles and I like that people have also recommended their own.

thank you for the thread and for all the suggested racing games from users! I've seen a lot of quotes about road rash in road redemption reviews. It's time for me to discover this game which arouses a lot of praise after you recommend it to me. Will take a look on BP Remastered too

I wouldn't count on BP Remastered, it is really difficult to get to start sometimes as it requires the EA launcher to launch which is so BS. Just, take note of that. Otherwise, great game, I love it.

I haven't personally played any Dirt, Forza, Project Cars, Grid, F1 or Crew games and I haven't played enough Need for Speed games to recommend any particular one. Because of this discussion I have gotten a keen interest in Forza Horizon 4 which is cool. Dirt seems nice too but I think it seems to hard for me. I didn't think this discussion would be of any particular interest to anybody but I got a lot of good suggestions from people and I discovered some games I wouldn't have otherwise. It's pretty neat and you should look around what people have to say, not just what I say!

If you like asseto corza and grid you’ll probably like project cars.
Diet/diet rally (there is a difference between the two, with dirt rally being more realistic and dirt being more accessible) is morally driving, usually without any other cars, just you trying to make it through a dirt road trying not to hit any trees. It’s better than it sounds. Check out a few videos.

I haven't played any Grid games yet and Assetto Corsa doesn't appeal to me all that much although I did enjoy Assetto Corsa Competizone. Rally games really seem like pretty tough to get into but I'll watch some videos about recommendations and such. I heard BeamNG.drive offered a really hard and realistic Rally experience compared to other rally simulators out there but people have said that it is really advanced and not for beginners. It truly comes to show how great BeamNG.drive is and what different things you can do with the game.

Doesn't Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have like Kart customization and stuff? I wonder if it actually changes the stats of the Kart too, never played so I don't really know. I heard it was fun though!

it does have kart customization, and the parts do affect stats, so yeah you're correct!

So you basically build your Kart based on stats only? I kind of don't see the point of making a customizable Kart if the only purpose you use it for is to make it as fast as possible to a certain character, I mean I guess it is the same with Mario Kart Wii where you choose the best bike or kart rather than how cool it looks, although the falcon looks extremely cool it is so horrible. I main Toad with Bullet Bike in MKW and it is sick, but I wonder if there is like a skill ceiling that you can reach where you are so good that the stats barely matter and you can use whatever kart or bike you want. That won't be necessary anyway because I will never replace my Toad or Bullet Bike.

Do any of you wheelsters have an opinion of Lego 2k Drive?

I did play it on the PS4 with a controller but it was very mediocre, apart from bullying the little tiny Lego NPC characters for 30 minutes straight the racing was very meh and all the microtransactions were very intrusive. It could have a lot of potential with the creative aspect of creating your own cars and planes and whatnot but why does it have to be behind hours of grinding or behind a paywall?

Hi there, I used to play racing games, also with a wheel. I enjoyed most of the games indicated in this thread. Still I'd like to point out a couple of games: Out Run and Fuel.
The first is the original classic arcade game, nowadays it can be played using emulators. I spent many coins on that, and the feeling of cruising with the Ferrari Testarossa on the multilane highway with your blonde friend was soo good.
The second is a minor racing game, yet very nice and with a very different atmosphere imho. I played many hours just riding though the hills without any other target than devise the sunset from a distant spot. I think it can be found for consoles, in steam it is expensive and still has the gfwm inside which lost my savegames.

My dad was talking to me yesterday how he used to spend his lunch money playing the original Donkey Kong in the cafeteria every day, he can't believe it himself that it was 40 something years ago, gosh. I can't even believe it myself. My dad remembers playing all these Outruns and Lotus games back in the day with the Sega Genesis. I wish I could've had a childhood like that, just music, video games, and school.

I am quite young, but my music taste is stuck in the '70s, '80s and '90s and ultimately with System Of A Down in the '00s. Just the world has changed, for the scary and for the worse. With all this technology, internet, 5G and all these other scary things I don't know what the future has to offer for us. With bad things comes good too, we now have things like VR and actual racing wheels. We have dishwashers and laundry machines and all these other amazing appliances that I am grateful to have every day that make my everyday life easier.
