Support is slow, but deleting your ticket and creating a new one is going to put you on the end of the list again which means it is going to take longer.

There's your problem. When you delete or close a ticket and make a new one, the new one gets moved to the end of the queue.
Instead, be patient.

I have a 5 year old ticket open. It's obviously not important anymore, but it seems they just look past the ones they don't know how to deal with.

In your case though, it will clearly get dealt with as soon as they can. Just let it take its course.

That is the worst thing you can do with a ticket system like this, you went to to end of the queue again.

I can't speak for every support team member but we generally handle oldest to newest tickets, so as other SG members have pointed out in this thread you've made the wait longer for yourself. And while there are only 33 delete giveaway tickets at the time of my typing this out there's also a bunch of other tickets that aren't delete GA tickets in the queue line.
