The bigger the contribution is, the more people are kind.

I've got 4 giveaways recently, the first one was with 20$ of contribution and the people were nice and the winner was nice and a cool person, then I got a giveaway for 0.01$ and the person was kind again, the winner, but there weren't a lot of thank you, but still they were pretty nice and now we got a public open giveaway which had no contribution price on it... The winner got suspended for winning from two places and the same time, got 2 copies from me and probably two copies from the other person, so I think he now has 4 copies of the game... yeah public giveaways are frustrating.

Now I got a giveaway for Dota 2 with contribution of 50$, there are 2 people at it now but they are cool enough to say thank you or a joke, so... Contribution is good. You got the chance to meet really nice and awesome people.

Why?

At the lower contributor levels I assume it's still very manageable to get them people who aren't as kind.

You probably just got lucky for now :)

Then I wasnt lucky I assume. My first contributor giveaway won some "extremely impolite person" with average contribution level, who also appeared to be regifter...

I'd also like to know what you mean. Your opinions don't mean much if you don't give any reason for them, you know.

If someone does that I reckon asking for a reroll is understandable.

I think it's that people who contribute are more invested to this site. They have donated their money and effort, so they usually know to appreciate the gifts they win here. Leechers are usually just selfish people who have the mentality: "Everything for free to me naow." They can't appreciate the fact that they're getting stuff for zero effort, which is just the reason why I despise leechers so much >:(

I've heard there are people who are lazy enough that they are bothered to even click on "enter", but they ask of their friends to click instead of them, thus breaking the rules. They later enter the whole philosophical debate about gifts being free and gifters having nothing to say about what someone does with their spoils of battle.

So, yeah, I would agree with OP - the more you invest, the more you appreciate what others are giving and doing. Sometimes this has a dark side - condescending look at leechers.... but then again, some of them do deserve it with their attitude. Not all, of course.

Yeah, you're totally right. I'm not saying all people who are considered leechers are bad. Some people might have no means to buy games to give away. But you can also contribute to this site by being active in the forums. What I really despise are just those unappreciative type of leechers, they should go away to rot in some dark pit.

Meh, for my birthday I did a bunch of "free" giveaways and $50 contributor ones, and the person who got suspended for trying to trade the gift he won from me was one of the $50 contributors.

Just because someone gave some games away doesn't mean they're a nice person.

I don't think $50 is considered high enough for this kind of discussion. You can get to $50 contribution with one Railworks and several games from bundles, and while that is not wrong by itself, it is easily used by ungrateful people to just boost their contributions fast and enter more $50 giveaways.

Heck, I've seen people gettting to 250+ with just multiple railworks, ships, shadowgrounds and bundle games.

One, "thank you" comments aren't really much of a measure of anything other than post count. There's a whole big debate on the subject that keeps cycling through these forums, but the general gist is that, while it may be polite to say "thank you" on every giveaway you enter, the sheer number of people who post it on every giveaway that exists, even if they don't enter it or it's fake, devalue the phrase; especially considering several of them use scripts to do so.

Two, contributor value isn't a measure of kindness, merely of wallet size and generosity. Generosity ≠ kindness. Just because politicians give millions away to charity doesn't make them stop being assholes.

Politicians often give away money that is not theirs. You can't compare that with people giving away their hard earned cash.

Someone does have more money from others, someone has less, but let's be honest, every part of the world is in some kind of crisis, nowhere is great, no job is secure for long term... Every single game should be appreciated, and no one should be scorned for having a job and getting a paycheck.

eh, I had a private trains giveaway with a contribution of $32.23 or something, and in the description I specifically said that I would not be giving the game if you hadn't activated one of your gifts, and it turned out the winner hadn't. Luckily support responded in about 5 or so hours and rerolled.

Money, giving it away, doesn't turn people from assholes to nice people.
There can be very impolite contributors and very kind and fun people who didn't contribute a cent, mostly because they actually can't afford or any other reasons.
There isn't a rule.
Don't think that awesome people = people with money, because this isn't wise.

It's not only about kindness... Like banjo2E said (and the others), it's also about wallet size, and just because someone gave some games away doesn't mean they're a nice person. I would giveaway more games, but I really don't have enough money, and I don't even have a credit card... Hmm, I need to make some before the Steam Christmas sale...

I also thank the person if I win something.

"Thank you" comments aren't really much of a measure of anything other than post count (as banjo2E said.)

he could have given it to his friends or traded with them, so yeah he is generous. If more or less so would depend on his financial record which is no business of ours.
