Yes, you idiot ! Uuuuuuuh...
No, and congratz, you're actually not that stupid !
Bananaaaaaa

even if it was real, you felt uncomfortable with the whole thing - so you said no - that may or may not have been correct - but better to be safe than sorry - other trades will roll around that don't make you worry so much (less stress and worry is always the better way to go :)

oh and 'SUPA MEGA OOKALAYLEE - sigh, bo globe'

Can't you remove it without consequences before the end time of the GA ?

Don't you need a valid reason for it? I've only ever removed invite only ones when I tried to make a train when drunk and there were no helpful tools to automate it all, so might be wrong.

(Edit for Clarification) Before the giveaway has ended:
You have to state a reason, but that can be anything. It will be removed automatically.
If someone offers to trade for a game someone else is giving away that gifter would probably choose the predefined "gift is no longer available"-option - if they accept.

They'll lose one giveaway slot though.

Jeah, well, while nobody could or should be forced to give away their games in the end, there should be at least an automatic way to prevent abuse of the giveaway function.
Or else people would probably start making giveaways for games they just want to trade. :D

If his profile is true, he's from East Europe. I know that game are cheaper there, but wow, that's a lot for a game be bundled right now at 5$...

Could be just pennies, or free keys. 100$ in the Steam store doesn't mean anything.

I don't sell anything from them, I convert them to gem. That way they don't get the extra pennies. :P

But do they get anything any more, since they aren't on Steam? I'd bet Volvo just keeps all the pennies.
If they do, my huge scam plan just upgraded to releasing 10k crappy games, sueing Steam and then living off the profits from very expensive card sales. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know, but I'd rather not take any chance. At last when I sell the gems I know for sure that they don't get anything. :P

The backgrounds/emoticons do give more gems than the cards though. And since I usually craft the badges I get a somewhat similar profit from selling the gems than I would have by selling the backgrounds/emotes.

I wonder if this is the same user that asked someone doing a public GA if they would trade the game. also funny since they've given away so many games..

This topic makes me want to put "Trusted trader" on my profile too.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. The moment you upheld your end of the bargain they would have blocked all contact with you. Scammers target noobs because they're inexperienced and gullible, while the scammers themselves are incredibly petty and will scam you even if its only over a couple of bucks. Happens to most of us at some point.

if I learned something here, yep that's the "If it sounds too good to be true it probably is"
But you know, when you're a noob, there is always the little doubt inside you calling you stupid to miss such an opportunity...

Might have been real but, you didn't lose anything.
I think he was offering to trade you "$100" or max $15 CV worth for it, assuming you can give them away (I'd have asked for a list). But trading a game you already have made a giveaway for is a no-no in my book.
And asking you to remove a game trade it to them:

That's true that I did not lose anything even if it was real, thanks for making me see this like that :)

I could have "understand" the demand if it was a game hard to find and he was really desesparate to get it. It does not cost anything to ask. But there, it's a game he can actually get for cheap currently...

Hard to say. Could have been a scammer, could have been just somebody who was looking for that game and has some leftover bundle games. If he has a trade thread somewhere where he lists his games and says he is looking for SC2, that would be a point in his favor imo. "Trusted trader" on the profile means nothing.

Is it only me wondering about that thing with having "no money on his PayPal account"?

For myself, I NEVER had deposit on my PayPal account - it is kinda just like an interim stage between the site where I bought and my bank. I am buying with PayPal nearly in all cases, so this seems really strange to me. You can't tell me that there aren't 20 bucks on his bank account...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that method is not always available to everyone from the start. I think one has to first transfer money to Paypal the first few times they'll use it. Maybe that user is also not aware of the "direct" use or can't use paypal like that at all.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's only linked to bank accounts in couple countries. Most people just add their debit/credit card info there which gets used for paying. Debit ofc takes the money out of a bank account but that's the only link.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Alright, I didn't know about that exactly, just could tell from my own experience.

@sappyMA: ^Probably explains the differences, since I never had to transfer money to my PayPal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Me neither, only withdrawn money to a bank account which they verify just like cards. One reason to transfer first is that you can send money already in PayPal with 0 fees as a "gift to family and friends" if you trust the other party, but that hardly matters unless buying from a private seller.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think being a non-business client never adds fees while paying, at least I never had to pay for service. Just when you receive money via PayPal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sure, but some require you to add the fees on top so that they will get the right amount. When you use PayPal balance you can send it so that neither pays any fees for it.

Guys has "Trusted trader" write on his profile

If one has to advertise that they are trusted, then they fail the fundamental point of what makes anyone in business a trusted partner.

Anyway, looking at the conversation, it most likely was not a scam, but you would have drawn the much shorter stick in the transaction, likely ending up with a bunch of region-locked free/junk games.

By the way, if someone drops the "I don't have PayPal" tale on you, respond that the bundle site accepts other payment methods. If they try to say they don't have a card either, then ask them how did they get the games they want to trade you in the first place.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Obviously they got some free games, sold the cards and then got rich by trading every $100 they make for $50, foolproof business plan.

There are other payment methods. There are virtual bank cards that you can top up with direct bank transfers. Virtual currency. Services that can use a bank account without a card. Services that operate on pre-paid top-up cards like a mobile phone plan. Steam wallet codes sold in stores at some places.
I know. PayPal and bank card are just the most widely used but not the only methods. Still, many wannabe scammers don't make even this small effort to look into this and they just leave or try to come up with some obvious bullshit tale when they are presented with the question I stated above.

The 100 euro worth of games are games he has gotten from massive giveaways. Probably 10 cheap ass games from Digital Homicide with steam store value of 100 euro.
