I don't know! :D His profile image has a very spanish-looking background and colours to it, perhaps that's why? =) I've just always thought he was spanish since I first joined the site. He's one of the guys I noticed from the start in the puzzle section.
Speaking of profile images, is that a ragdoll in yours?
Reason I ask is because it looks a bit like my ragdoll cat: Hope the links work

Not really that long.
It was in front of me the entire afternoon/evening, but only worked on it occasionally/very slowly.

Fun fact: There's a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee. I have postcards of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenon_(Nashville)

Perhaps it's because I spent too long on the previous one, but despite being so tired I couldn't resist making this "alternative tourist" style one as well - for one of those "Places to visit before you die!" brochures...
EDIT: I had assumed each person could only make one submission, and wasn't intending this second picture to be taken into consideration - but looking at the rules, I can't see anything limiting people to submitting only one picture. Was that intentional, or an oversight? If I can have 2 entries, I guess I'll include this as well! If not, then just the previous, "sensible" submission :D

Oh, I see.
Unfortunately, those lines don't make any sense in my drawing. My Parthenon is hollow, and I've added the columns on all 4 sides - those lines would just be floating between the front columns.
I didn't imagine I'd have this much trouble participating, I was really just trying to depict the Parthenon in my own style; not taking away the focus, not trying to distort it into something else, not trying to bend the rules in any way - just trying to join in, and keep in the spirit of the competition. I guess I missed the mark.
I appreciate that you've put a lot of work into the competition, and you're just trying to make it fair for everybody, so no hard feelings if you need to disqualify me.

It's part of the rules, and I'm sure some would be upset if we ignored it for one person, but not for others since we've put our foot down on some that had to reintroduce them (for example the pixel-art one in this challenge).
I would love to see yours include the lines, even if faded out somewhat, because it's a very nice looking Parthenon. Also, something I hadn't noticed before is that you've removed the entire bottom line on the ground.

The line removal of the detail lines in the original is removal of all detail lines, however, when compared to overall content of picture it's minimal and will pass this week ..
Future weeks try to maintain all original lines and have final design include them...

For some reason you are not alone who thinks that the Parthenon is a space ship :))

The Parthenon Challenge!
Where: Athens, Greece
What: The magnificent temple on the Acropolis of Athens, known as the Parthenon, was built between 447 and 432 BCE in the Age of Pericles, and it was dedicated to the city’s patron deity Athena. The temple was constructed to house the new cult statue of the goddess by Pheidias and to proclaim to the world the success of Athens as leader of the coalition of Greek forces which had defeated the invading Persian armies of Darius and Xerxes. The temple would remain in use for more than a thousand years, and despite the ravages of time, explosions, looting, and pollution damage, it still dominates the modern city of Athens, a magnificent testimony to the glory and renown the city enjoyed throughout antiquity.
Interesting facts:
GOOD LUCK on the challenge! Create for us some breath-taking Parthenons for some awesome GA wins!
