But Mark of the Ninja and Dishonored are actually really good. Generally things like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty tend to be the most overrated (Skyrim has to be the most overrated game ever) but I've actually not heard a lot of those games so I can't make that call this year.
Comment has been collapsed.
What's bad about Mark of the Ninja? Also, it sold poorly on XBLA, which is the reason Microsoft put it on PC. So other than it getting a good score on metacritic, how is it overrated?
Comment has been collapsed.
maybe you don't hear good stuff about it because it is actually underrated
even though it got good scores not alot of people played it so of course you wouldn't hear about it
Comment has been collapsed.
Very much this. Either you like it, or you don't. Simple as that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well just because - for the sake of the argument - I don't fancy fps games as a general, thus don't like counter-strike, I still know it is good in it's genre and not overrated by the masses.
So yeah I don't agree with your view on what being overrated means. The same way I don't agree with many others who say Diablo 3 is overrated. It's not and people generally acclaimed that it wasn't good, so there is nothing overrating about it. Moving on..
Comment has been collapsed.
LoL is even more overrated than DotA, sadly it didn't release in 2012 or it would be on top of the list.
Comment has been collapsed.
I dont like LoL or Hon... and i really enjoy Dota 2, i think its not overrated, its a damn fun game to play, maybe not that good.. still alot better than LoL.
Comment has been collapsed.
You clearly never played the game, if you do, your opinoin will change
Comment has been collapsed.
I think not. In my personal opinion I don't find that game the least bit appealing, it's just not the kind of game I would enjoy playing. But besides my personal thoughts, I don't think the game deserves the overall praise it has gotten. It's not anything special or unique, so I don't understand why people are giving it so much recognition.
Comment has been collapsed.
Both are stealth games and both are fucking awesome... ever thought that maybe you just don't like the genre ?
Comment has been collapsed.
I looked at it and that's exactly what I thought.
Comment has been collapsed.
I liked it a whole lot but I can totally agree that it falls under overrated due to one major point. Games like Dear Esther are only enjoyed by a niche group, but I have seen a lot of generalized promotion of the game as if anyone would find it amazing. So from a general prospective, overrated.
Comment has been collapsed.
it is high in my whshlist, i guess i'd let it down?
Comment has been collapsed.
+1. I really tried to play it, and i play a lot of indie and "art" thingies but... That was too much. Just boring, and the narrative (that is the main part of the game) is by no means that cool if you are used to reading some quality novels. So yeah, another 30' played steam sales buy.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd say FC3 since it doesn't look very interesting, but I haven't actually played it myself. Dota2 is a very good possibility as bobofatt said, but I really think I have to go with Diablo 3. It's... really bad, and even with the sh*tstorm the internet threw up, it's still (kinda) alive and running an 88 on metacritic.
As far as all time goes... I hate to say it, since it's my single favorite RPG, but FF7. It was a solid game for its time, but it wasn't the best even then. Now, it just kinda pales.
Comment has been collapsed.
FC3 has pretty good mechanics and a decent storyline.

when Diablo 3 came out, my buddy went to the store and bought it as soon as he could, i was there with him because he wanted to play it with me, while he enjoyed that game i was highly disgusted at how everything in that game got casualised to the point it was not even challenging to play... and neither fun to play.
Comment has been collapsed.
You never got to original Inferno then. It was most certainly NOT for casual players, in the least.

There are three ways to live each moment of your life: 3.Being Ignorant and Apathetic ("i don't know and i don't care"). 2.Being Spiteful (angry). 1.Being Wonderful (appreciating the beauty). Never forget that every moment has it's beauty, because of it's uniqueness. It happens only once like this. Even the seamingly repeating circumstances are always different.

Thats to Black and White.
I fall more into intelligent(Sad by the state of the world but know there is some good so it keeps my head just above water where I don't drown).
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't you dare call ignorance the same as apathy. I'm apathetic, yet I'm 100% not ignorant. Please try to view things from a different perspective before you say something that might hurt someone. Enjoying life isn't a choice either, it's just the brain chemicals that determine how you feel, for example: depression isn't a choice.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think he meant ignorance equates to apathy because someone who is apathetic will experience less and thus remain more ignorant.
Or I'm wrong and he just doesn't know what the two words mean.
Comment has been collapsed.
What i meant to say is that, ignorance and apathy spring from the same attitude sometimes, the phlegmatic temperament towards what's experienced. Ignorance and Apathy together are: "i don't know and i don't care". You see, "I don't know" is ok by itself, but linked to "I don't even care" is destructive. There, i modified the original post to be more explicit.

Yeah dude, most expensive DLC ever. Good beer is always at least five bucks. Nice meals are 40 or more. All this puts you into a new weight category where you now have to buy fitness DLC or spend more on nourishment DLC. Vicious cycle. There is of course more... Blowjobs are twenty one time or a daily subscription fee. ex is even worse, you have to subscribe and buy one time DLCs for your subscription! It is a scam, I am sure. And no matter what you do, eventually you will reach the inevitable game over screen. That DLC is the most expensive. 20 grand for the coffin burial? Five for the cremation dlc? Give me the lighter and fuel dlc, only five bucks, do it myself, save some credits so ym kids can get better dlc.

For releases I would say that Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 win hands down
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right on Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3 deserved the praise it got though, which wasn't even that much in comparison to other games. I'd argue it's underrated.
Comment has been collapsed.
I take in account all the hype both generated, not the criticism. For D3, people expected it to be more like the second game, and it wasn't.
Comment has been collapsed.
Diablo 3 overrated? I don't know about you but I've heard more complaints about it than praises, which is not the definition of overrated. Disappointing, maybe. Overrated though?
Comment has been collapsed.
My thoughts exactly. I consider it the most overrated release due to the hype it generated. And even if criticised, most people who talk shit about it probably never played it and just repeat like parrots the shit they read/heard about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, didn't notice that. I'd say Skyrim is pretty overrated though... although I have put over 100 hours into it.
Comment has been collapsed.
As TotalBiscuit puts it: It's a vast ocean as shallow as a kiddie pool (or something to that extent)
Comment has been collapsed.
The only reason that I played so much of Skyrim was the explorations. That's really the only thing it had going for it apart from all the mods.

80% of playtime is used to travel to a new location for beginners...after that, it's all fast travel. lolz

journey so far, it has barely gameplay and it's just an hour game... i beat it like in 45 minutes, bu bu teh art style
Comment has been collapsed.
I loved Dishonored. It was short but insane amounts of fun.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not a big surprise. It's 6-8hrs long game, with no replayablity and forgettable multiplayer. It's one of the worst values for AAA prices, I've seen in years. Especially, that as a game - it wasn't even all that entertaining.
It's good that there even is some multiplayer and dumb achievements (which add at least some replayablity to the game), because without them, I'd have problems recommending this game even for 5€ price tag.
Mediocre shooter with an interesting story... good experience, but not really something that I'd call a good game.
Comment has been collapsed.
I haven't finished it yet, but I think I'm near the end at around 6.5 hours. Unlocking the FUBAR difficulty and making different choices will warrant a second playthrough for me, and of course the achievements will probably boost game time to around 10-12 hours.
The multiplayer is garbage (haven't even tried it because the single player development team expressed how horrified they were with the multiplayer). I think that a full retail price isn't worth it, but half price would definitely be worth it for me. It's such a nice break from the standard shooters out there that always fuck up the story and characters. The gameplay is the weakest element but it's still fun! I'm not even a big fan of third person shooters and yet I was impressed with Spec Ops, it gave me a unique feeling compared with most games I've spent more money on.
Comment has been collapsed.
Despite all odds, FUBAR killed the game even more for me - difficulty clearly shows, the game wasn't designed with it in mind and that it may have even been added in the last few days of developement without proper play-testing. I'd recommend avoiding this difficulty.
The choices in game add a nice illusion of freedom, but sadly - aside for one of two right at the end, they are meaningless and don't affect much... they especially do not affect the ending.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't want to hear that :( I'm suffering at times on Hard difficulty so I knew it would be very tough, but I didn't think it would be that bad.
Maybe I'm just happy to be in a believable Dubai rather than Brazil or Russia or some other done to death country.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't you dare call HL2 overrated...
I think I'm going to go with the obvious, COD:BO2.
Comment has been collapsed.
To be fair, it was much less hyped than previous games and, ironically, actually better than the previous games.
Comment has been collapsed.
It may be less overrated, but still the most overrated game in 2012.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I'm not sure that really counts as overrated because after the release most people figured out it wasn't very good. Possibly the most over hyped though.
Comment has been collapsed.
Black Ops 2 may have been the most overhyped until it released and people realized it wasn't very bad (which is maybe why it didn't end up being as overrated?)
Comment has been collapsed.
Call of Duty:Black Ops 2 Although i didn't play pc i got it for 360 (via redbox)and played it... it has curse words and blood and a gun i mean hello?!? And Target Terror i mean fuck a Gun and no cursing and blood and a M rating? It should be T or E10+
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't get it for pc, it's already dead and it's pretty bad compared to other pc ports.

So there is topic about most underrated. Shoud be an opposite of that, shouldnt it?
I think Mark of the Ninja or Dishonored - overrated.
Also we can discuss most overrated game of all time. My thoughts: Half Life 2. Nothing special.(except for Gravity Gun, which is really awesome)
