I usually do this when solving very large puzzles. I sort the pieces very approximately by color and put off the borders. In fact, it often turns out that this is faster to solve if you spend a little time sorting first π

Yes, if it's difficult to start the puzzle at once, you can spend 5 minutes moving the pieces in different directions according to the colors. And then connect the parts in groups first:

Speaking about Ozo's events, I remember the 405 pieces puzzle which showed just black background and it took me nearly 6 hours to complete. I wonder if in this year's event will be puzzles of this kind and I worry that the answer is "yes". :P
