A Valley Without Wind would be a good game if it had more players...

Yep. Free to those who own the first, actually. The initial intent was to give the whole game a tune-up, but they decided that they didn't want to alienate the hardcore fans of the first. Came up that they were overhauling the whole system so dramatically that it would just be a sequel, but free to those who bought the first. Kinda jazzed about that.

I'll rattle off quite a few and list their genres so you can figure out what interests you, these are only my favorite indies that I've actually played, but I know there are a lot of other good ones I haven't gotten around too
Terraria (sandbox sidescroller)
Orcs Must Die! 2 (TPS tower defense)
Dungeons of Dredmor (roguelike)
Dungeon Defenders (tower defense with some RPG elements)
Sol Survivor (tower defense)
Magic 2013 DoTP (WotC is a major publisher, just not when it comes to video games. good strategy game nonetheless)
Magicka (action adventure)
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes (strategy)
RUSH (puzzle)
EDGE (action puzzle)
Trine series (puzzle platformers)
Critter Crunch (puzzle)
Chime (puzzle)
Triple Town (strategy/puzzle)
Legend of Grimrock (roguelike)
Spacechem (puzzle)
Torchlight series (action RPG)
Q.U.B.E. (physics/platformer puzzle)
Lunar Flight (surprisingly fun moon lander sim)
Botanicula (awesome point & click adventure)
To The Moon (story)
eversion (mario-inspired platformer)

+2 (This x2)
Both games here are fantastic. Bastion was pretty good. Trine was enjoyable (I have yet to play my copy of the sequel).

Dear lord, I have a few to recommend: Geneforge Saga, FTL, Braid, Bastion, Amnesia, BIT.TRIP Saga, Cave Story, Osmos, Legend of Grimrock, Torchlight, Torchlight 2, Uplink, They Bleed Pixels, Terraria, and uhhh...oh! World of Goo. That's all the Steam indies I recommend. Some are mostly popular than others, but there are a few lesser know gems in the list. Btw, 'INDIE' is so generic term...so I didn't know what EXACT genre you like to play.
