I have only to buy a motherboard and video card and my build is complete. I am going to get the 680, and not sure on the motherboard yet. I was waiting for a thunderbolt board, but I may just scrap that idea and get thunderbolt as a daughterbaord. Thinking of the P9X79 Socket 2011 X79 ATX Intel Motherboard or the P9X79 DELUXE Socket 2011 X79 ATX Intel Motherboard.

Anywho, I had four WD 500 GB Caviar black drives sitting under my desk collecting dust, so I decided to upgrade the computer I currently have. I took out the HDD caddy, cut a hole in the side of it so the fan I mounted on the side panel I cut out pulls air straight off the drives and out the side of the case.

I then decided to upgrade my old drive Steam is installed to, which was 200.0 GB IDE WD drive. Since I was in the case, I decided to upgrade my last IDE drive as well. I may be the last gamer on earth to have this.

I just upgraded to a 500 GB WD Caviar Black from a WD Caviar Enhanced IDE 30.0 GB hard drive. It has been making a whining noise off and on for the last year with a couple bad sectors, but still running.

Sure, I'll bite. What are your other specs going into your rig?

i7-3930K, Vengeance® 16GB Quad Channel DDR3 Memory Kit, Corsair HX850, Carbide Series™ 500R Mid-Tower Case, ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5.

Not sure if I want to do a 128/256 SSD and a HDD, or just go for a hybrid drive. I am hoping the 680 series goes back down to the ~$450 range it was at for the short while after it came out.

BTW, this thread was less about my new build and more about getting a laugh out of me still having a 30 GB drive. It also helps that I work in computer retail and get some of this at a good discount, hence most of it being from Corsair. Not to mention they make great stuff.

All looks very good. I hope you're more than a gamer, because for solely gaming Socket 2011 is pretty overpriced haha, I'm sure you know already though. Also, why the 680 when the 670 steps on its toes, pretty much within 5% of performance for $100 less.
