I had no idea Jamestown was a schmup, especially 4-player coop. And it looks really freakin' sweet.

Has anyone here played it and can supply information? I wanna know more about the four unique ships and their roles and abilities. While I hunt for a giveaway to enter all manic-like. Currently, from the Free Games topic, I'm playing through GwangeDash, and that's a Cave Schmup from hell rivaled only by Touhou. Matter of fact, lets use this topic to discuss Schmups.

Its an acquired taste, for the most part. Too much going on on the screen can make anyone a little dizzy, and they take precision to master. Each game is different, and so the bullet hell can be easier to work through but complex looking, or fill the screen and take a certain path to get through safely, and the path is hard to see in itself. 80's gamers like myself, who've played Gradius and R-Type to name two favorites (Raiden coming in later I believe?) these games are treasures.

Yeah... first time I saw the screenshots I thought it was an RTS lol.

It's a fun schmup, seems kind of short, but it oozes style and presentation.

Schmups aren't meant to be long and drastic. The only replay value they have is scoring, more often than not.

I have a 50% coupon for Jamestown if you want it. I don't need anything for it.

Jamestown is an awesome game but sadly it only has local co-op. Its fun if you can get some friends over to play.
As for the ship, I unlock 3 of the 4 and their each uniquely different. As for the DLC, I say its not really worth it since all you get is 3 new ships (I don't consider chance as a new ship) and a couple of new challenges but sadly no new levels.
I say get it, awesome game, sweet graphics for the type of game it is and the music is amazing

Its uniquely named to be certain. It's a shame it only has local co-op, but things can change at some point.

The coop is a lot of fun if you have friends that'll play with you. A friend and I sat down, thinking we'd play it for 30 minutes or so, and then do something else ... 2 hours later, we finally got done. The game is a blast.

I'm definitely gonna find out tomorrow when I get done with my daily stuff as I'm about to head to sleep for the night as soon as some of this stuff finishes up.

Yup, Jamestown sure has a strong (Do)DonPachi feel, especially with the first ship and the beam weapon and those long strings of enemies on the first level.

Also it does get close difficulty wise once you put the difficulty up (to unlock later levels). Unfortunately it also introduces some fairly unfair-ish dodging bits in the final level, the likes of which the Donpachi series has luckily avoided.

The game does have a very strong DoDonPachi presence, and I think it was the point. You can definitely see it when you use your laser, as it's pretty much TAKEN from DoDonPachi, and other such Cave games. You can even find this in GwangeDash, Patriot Dark, and a few others that are free but not on Steam.
