Have you used this feature?
I just use the categories in Steam to filter out games I don't want to play.

Just install the games you're likely to play, and sort your library by "Installed" Problem solved.

I gave up on categories after I logged into Steam one day to find it had deleted all my categories of 900+ sorted games. Fuck you Steam.

You can just hide them in a category you never would touch, no need to delete anything. What if, in a year or so, you decide to try some of them, but they are gone then?
Comment has been collapsed.
That is my hesitation. But some of these I have owned for years and never had any desire to play. I've redeemed a couple racing sim games, for instance, only to realize I'm just not a fan of that type of game

Have a lot of games, too, and lots i know i will likely not play.
So i have created myself a junk category and put them in that. I know that i will very likely not look at them, but at least so i know that they are there when i do and the list of games is a lot smaller.
If you sort the games to delete them, you can just put them there, it shouldn't use any more time than deleting them and that way you don't have to hide them here from the giveaways, since if you own them they won't appear anyway. Unless you want to win some of them again :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll probably do that with games I feel on the fence about. Label the category as "zJunk" or something so it doesn't interfere with the categories I already have.

Every time I think about buying something, I look at my library.
Then I usually don't buy something. :)
Also in case this is informative, I think removing the games from your library makes you ineligible for booster packs. Incorrect information.
Comment has been collapsed.
That is something I was wondering about. Some of the game I'd delete would have given card drops in the past. I have so many booster pack eligibilities that I probably wouldn't miss a few going away. But its a point to consider

You put your license on indefinite hold if you want to be more precise. Steam won't or cannot delete license info from an account. But strange enough, you can overwrite an old license by adding the same game with a different key again after removing it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't delete games from your library unless you really dislike the game.
Just hide them.
Poll needs more options.
"No, deleting games is unnecessary."
Comment has been collapsed.
for what deleting? you can sort them by doing a "favorite" list in your library
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need to delete them. Right click on game, set categories, check "hide this game in my library" box at the bottom. You wont see it anymore and it wont show on your profile. Don't do this with games you have won here.
Comment has been collapsed.
I've thought about that. But my game count would still be the same, right? Or is that what you mean by "it wont show on your profile?"
It seems to be pretty much the same either way. It's also been pointed out that you can undo a permanent delete so I should be able to get the game back if I suddenly decide I want to play it.
Most if not all of what I intend to delete would be games from genres I know I dislike or games that I'll definitively say I have zero interest in. It's not going to be that many. Though thanks for the warning about games I've won, I did win one game that I didn't end up liking. I'll make sure not to delete it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not sure about the game count. Hiding them is just a safer option and will accomplish the same thing. You will not see the game at all and no body looking at your profile will either (You know all those titles you have for um.. research).

It's probably easier just to hide them and if you eventually decide you did want to play them, just unhide them. That way you don't have to deal with steam support or whatever is required for that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah. I've stuck to games I am absolutely certain I will never play so far (like four games and some DLC for those) but anything I'm on the fence about I won't be getting rid of yet.

The only time I ever thought about deleting a game from my library was, when I learned that I could have an uncut version of Left 4Dead 2, if someone outside of Germany would gift it to me - and I delete my cut version of it prior.
But as far as I knew you have to write a support ticket for this and this just made me think: Who really cares about absurd suddenly vanishing zombie corpses?
Is there a chance to do it without having to deal with Steam support?
For now I'm using a lot of categories, but this is of course a bunch of work to start with...
But after stalking your profile I just realised, that - even with family sharing - I only have half of your games, so perhaps I can't really imagine how big your problem really is ;/
Comment has been collapsed.
It's a pretty easy process, really. Click on the game in your library, hit support on the side and then there's an option to permanently remove it from the account. You are "dealing" with Steam Support, but it's an automated process.

Instead of hiding games and risking to run into problems with SteamGifts thinking game is not activated, you can just create a Category called something like "Hidden Games", or "Trash" and put any games you are not going to play there. They will still appear if you search by name, but you can just ignore any game in that category.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't plan on removing any games I've won, so I shouldn't get into issues with SG. A lot of people have suggested a trash category. I think I'm going to use that idea for anything I'm on the fence about removing and just revisit that list periodically until I make a decision.

Nah, I'd never do that. Don't really get the concept of a cleaner virtual library. It's just screen space. That said, I'd probably be willing to stand more clutter than many if it was all physical copies too as I kind of like mess and chaos.
Kind of like to think that I might pass my account on to someone else one day. Perhaps I'll lose interest, perhaps I'll get diagnosed with a terminal illness. I don't have children yet, but if I do in the future then they would be obvious candidates. If Steam still exists then, I think it would be nice for the recipient to get as big a choice of games as possible. If they want to delete stuff then they can.

I like you...
Kind of like to think that I might pass my account on to someone else one day.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking. There are plenty of game I'll never play, but some day I might have kids and unless gaming really changes, they might enjoy some of those games. Or maybe if I get a girlfriend who likes certain games I don't. It doesn't even have to be necesarily passing it on, just sharing it with someone you love.

I do not understand the point of deleting games from a digital library when you can merely hide it. It is your money though, so you are free to do as you wish with it.
Comment has been collapsed.
If I can say with 100% certainty that I wont ever play the game, I feel ok deleting it. Like you said, the money's already been spent anyway. It's all bundle games in my case though so I'm not going to cry over the $.12 or whatever I "lose" by deleting the game, you know?
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not picky about what I buy :P. And again, you could just hide it and farm it for cards to buy a good game :P.
Comment has been collapsed.
Anything < 1$ (especially with cards) is an auto buy for me. Yes, I've spent money on stupid things but I can't help it ;_;.

You can cover your eyes, but the stain is still visible to everyone else :(

Go to the game in your library, hit support on the side and then choose "I want to permanently delete this game from my account." Be careful with it, because any games you redeemed as a single key will all be deleted together. So if you got Victory Command from a Humble Bundle where each tier was a single key, you'd lose all those other games as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
As it stands right now, deleting a game doesn't delete anything of it, other than its presence in the library.
And it's completely reversible with a few clicks anyway.
Before, I blindly activated any game from bundles, even those I knew I'd never touch (especially if they had cards);
but now that I know of Steam Gifts, I'll give away here what doesn't interest me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep, I've definitely started doing that. But there are still lots of remnants from when I thought having a big library was cool and bought stuff just to pad my numbers.
Comment has been collapsed.
Games in the library don't ask for food or water, keeping them doesn't hurt you in the least, whether you do play them or not. The only problem would be having a hard time fining a game, but that can be easily solved by categorizing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I kind of know what you mean (as in, I really want to play the games in my backlog and are kind of sad that there are so many great games just sitting there, waiting to be played), but it doesn't really bug me personally. Although it does feel good to finish a game that has been sitting in the backlog for ages.
Just realised my backlog is bigger then the libraries of a lot of people...

Something else to consider... What if you delete a game you won here on SG? Does it count as if you didn't activate the gift? I was thinking about deleting Nosgoth once the servers shut down... Sorry for hijacking, thought it might be relevant to your question.
Comment has been collapsed.
Others have said not to delete games you've won, so I wouldn't. Better to be safe on that front
Comment has been collapsed.
SG cannot tell if you ever had a game if you delete so. Even if you prove you deleted it to support and don't get suspended for not-activation this way you will still be shown as non-activator in SG anyway - things like SGT-protected GAs will become unaccessible to you, people will also BL you because they willassume you broke the rules - so better just hide the game.

I've recently come to the conclusion that I have a number of games I feel I will never play. Random free keys, bundles, and poor impulse control have left me with a pretty big library and I want to start cutting out the stuff I feel I won't ever play so I can more easily focus on what I actually want to play. But for whatever reason I'm really struggling to bite the bullet.
Are there any former bundle addicts who have gone through and cleaned their library? What's the little push I need to actually realize how absurd I'm being?
EDIT: I do know about hiding, since it keeps coming up. I have games I would rather delete than hide/ I know I will never play. If I'm that sure, then it makes sense to delete. A lot of people have said they can't imagine deleting a game. I'd say you have better impulse control than I did in the past. I also know about categories and I use them. Sorting away games I know I'll never play might "hide" the problem but it doesn't solve it for me as it's the big number/ having stuff I have no interest in that bothers me more than anything else.
