inb4 long and pointless amd vs nvidia argument

If we're comparing models with equal amounts of VRAM (2GB vs 2GB or 1GB vs 1GB) they both have pretty much exactly the same price, so it's really just down to raw stats. And that being the case I'd say the 7790 has a very slight edge in the comparison due to it's slightly higher core & memory clock speeds. But in actual real world application you're not going to notice a significant difference between the two cards because the difference in stats between the two is rather negligible.

The architectures are different. You can' compare clocks.

Real world benchmarks FTW

The 650 Ti is not a competitor to the 7790. That's the 650 Ti BOOST.

Since the 7790 is periodically on sale for $100, wait for one of those sales and then jump on it.

You live cool in NA, you have that sales in your countries, here in Spain the maximum they can do is put it on sale for just 20€ less, they also sell cards like 760 for more price than the 660 ti :(, I like to get a 7870 over the 660 ti at same price but if the 760 was at same price I would prefer the 760, but no I live in Spain :S

A 760 should be more than a 660 Ti. It's a better card, lol.

We do have some pretty kickass deals though. There's a $100 7850 on Newegg right now.

But I heard on all youtube benchmarks that the new 760 replacing 660 ti will cost you less, and ppl in forums said the same.

Price and performance being equal, nvidia wins due to physX support. Which is a shame, cause otherwise AMD would win due to (IMO) better HW.

The list of current games that use GPU based physx is so small that it's nearly nonexistent. LINKY
Physx is almost always run using the CPU now so it doesn't really matter whether you have an nvidia or amd GPU. And even with that handful of games where you CAN use GPU based physx, you can still use GPU based physx with them if you don't have an nvidis GPU. So in essence, the whole "nvidia is better because physx" stand isn't really valid. A comparison between any video cards is really just down to raw GPU/card specs at this point.

Thanks for the list, much appreciated! Even though I think running physx on GPU rather than CPU is a good idea as far as general PC performance goes, lately I have been having problems with games requiring more CPU power than GPU. You think the fact that AMD does both consoles might result in some edge for AMD on PC ports of those games?

AMD themselves claim it, but we won't know for sure until next gen games start coming out. It does sound reasonable considering that the AMD cards use the same GCN architecture and the new consoles are basically standard x86 PCs, rather than using exotic PowerPC and CELL architectures. Plus, the Xbox One apparently runs a custom version of Windows 8, so again, they are much closer to PCs than the current gen.

But Price/Perf isn't equal. The 7790 wins.

they are quite equal in performance - myself i'd choose GFX 650 Ti

So I'd say go with the 7790, it's newer and eats up less power.

Both are pretty much equal, but Nvidia card supporting PhysX is nice. Though considering for future, I think AMD card would be better due to the new consoles rocking AMD hardware and thus making more stable ports for AMD. We'll see.

I'm an 7790 user and the card is quite good, never had problem except in my heavily modded Skyrim, which I have to downclock to exchange for the stability :)

There is a good argument based on your CPU: If you use AMD processors, stick with AMD/ATI GPU. ATI have more raw processing than Nvidia, and Nvidia have more acceleration technologies than ATI (physx is only one of their tricks) but the game must support it to use.

There is a good comparing tool here: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php

It isn't complete, but is good enough to compare raw stats.

Do not listen to "go with nvidia cuz i tell u to". Compare them on hwcompare.com or whatever.
It's obvious that everybody will tell you that nvidia is better. Why? Because "aw pros use it".

Lower than the X60s series of Nvidia graphic cards aren't even designed with gaming in mind, they where meant more for application purposes. Can still run games, but likely lag issues. AMD lower range graphic cards are cheaper and better. Saying that however for a real gamer, you get a real graphics card and therefore go Nvidia high end range FTW!!! No questions asked about that...

In this case, where the cards are almost same i would go for nvidia. The reason is that AMD and their driver support can be sometimes really problematic compared to nvidia. Both nvidia and AMD have problems here and there, but I noticed much more problems with ATI drivers than with nvidia ones.

The 7790 is very powerful. Ive got the XFX mdoel, and it plays games such as Tomb Raider and Far cry 3 at 1920 x 1280 with everything at ultra and I still get 45-55 fps usually.

I compared the two of these cards (GTX 650 ti BOOST of course) a few months ago, and ended up going with the 7790 and am so glad that I did. When I picked it up on newwegg, not only was it on sale, it had a $25 rebate on it and came with Tomb Raider, Bioshock: Infinite, and BloodDragon. I had planned on getting the first two games, and those right there with the rebate essentially made the card free. It also helped my choice that I mine bitcoins, and Nvidia cards are garbage in that depertment. Since getting the card, mining when I'm not gaming, and often while gaming, I've managed to make back another $40. Sadly, mining with GPUs is nearly impossible to profit from these days, unless like me you have free electricity.

I would prefer the 7790 in this case because is better, the 650 ti BOOST is better than 7790 or a competitor, but I like more the 650 ti BOOST, not this one without BOOST. BOOOOOOOOOST, and be sure to get the 2Gb version, because 1Gb is not enough for all things nowadays.

My friend has the 7790 OC 2Gb edition from Sapphire, and he can play practically all games on ULTRA, exceptions are Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 for example, but these games can be played on HIGH, with low FXAA, medium antialising, no Vsync.

I totally agree on 1GB VRAM vs 2GB. 1GB is quickly becoming a stumbling block on the HD gaming path, just like 8GB RAM is when you want to do more than just game at once.

I have absolutely no complaints about that. Of course, I don't know about the NVidia, but I would recommend the AMD.
