As now is the time of the conclusion of my glorious struggle to get 25 dollars back after a web error that told me a Steam wallet transaction didn't go through, even though it still did, caused me to make an accidental double purchase, I've been told that I can provide feedback in my ticket. Now, the issue is simple enough, as it was Steam's fault that caused it. The story, however, is frustrating and quite stupid. The funny part is they told me up front that wallet purchases are non-refundable. Then, after fighting and telling them it was not my fault, disputing the transaction itself with PayPal (they even locked my account for a time because PayPal didn't reverse the transaction, and Steam locks your account ONLY if PayPal reverse the transaction), raging somewhat hard, and asking some moral questions, I was granted a one time, "customer service gesture." That, to me, is the most fucked up way of trolling an innocent, upset customer.

Anyway, to break off of ranting, I want to hear from YOU guys.

What about Steam grinds your gears? I'm going to make a HUGE semi-final response to the ticket, and I'm going to add an "uncensored community suggested feedback" section near the bottom. The only things I've addressed so far is/are their horrible and outdated ticket-type support system, the stupidity of their "Support Tech" people, and their piece of shit return policy (it's common sense to correct something that is your fault, not mine).

So yea, this is a rant thread that I will pull what I think the most compelling/angry feedback, compile it into the ticket, and send it to Support Tech Alex. He better get ready for a shit storm. I had two guys originally, because they merged two tickets into one because they decided to reopen the first ticket, which had been closed by them. The first was Ronald, and then came Brian. Then Alex got me, presumably because Ronald, who took over in Brian's absence after the merge, couldn't answer the following: "Do you think you did a good job of handling my matter? Do you think I'm a satisfied customer?" In my opinion, I was treated like a retard sack of shit.

Bah, I did another mini-rant. :U

Your use of words there is a bit of Electronic Arts.
But seriously, it's a Paradox how Steam is so awesome and crappy at the same time, they need to hire some Codemasters to fix some of their problems.

Did you know if you own a certain game in your library, you can't buy the four pack to gift to others but you can buy it for yourself. Lol Steam really failed there.

Furthermore, if there's a pack of games and you already own some of the games in the pack, you will almost always NOT get extra copies of the games you already have.

They tell you that when buying it. Its not there fault if the person buying that for some reason cannot read.

The fact that they tell you doesn't magically make it an attractive feature.

That's to be expected, though, given how much cheaper the packs often are than the individual games.

I do wish, though, that they could at least give you a discount if you already own part of the pack.

On top of this you can't buy a goty copy if you own the core game :/ (sometimes the goty is cheaper than all the dlc). Think they really need to fix the four pack and this...

also, you can't buy four pack without automaticaly activating one copy of the game. what if i want to give them all or buying for friends, huh?

I actually really enjoy Steam and what it does for publishers, developers and gamers. I unfortunately don't have a rage or sob story in all my dealings with Steam for over eight years.

Sorry.

Only time I had to use the ticket support was when a game gifted to me by a friend didn't go through; had to wait for a week before I got a response but all worked out smoothly after that.

If you think Steam support is bad, Origin's is much, much worse. Just sayin'

Dont rage too hard, they did give you a refund if I read that correctly.
While it makes sense for them to not offer any sort of refund system in order to protect against people buying the game copying the files and returning it, a better system would be to allow for refunds up until you start to download the game. It shouldnt be that difficult to add a variable "refundable" to each game. If the game has not been downloaded refundable=true, once you click the download button refundable=false. I dont know anything about licensing laws though, so id imagine there may be some legal complication with the publisher in doing this, as I know you cant return games at a brick and mortar store, you can only exchange for the same product if the disc doesnt work. But I can see where this would cause a great deal of trouble with sales and steam trading. So you shouldnt be able to return games you didnt buy yourself, and it should keep track of the price you payed, so you cant buy at a sale price and return for full price.
Perhaps It'd be possible just to simply add a system that automatically recognizes double purchases and halts the second purchase until receiving additional verification that the second purchase is intended.

Also, I have saved hundreds of dollars because of steams amazing sales, so i really cant be mad at steam in any way

Even if you copied the files, you'd still need Steam to be running in order to actually be able to play it. For most of them, anyway.

biggest problem i've had is that when i start computer without having internet connection steam wont go into offline mode, it refuse to start up saying an online connection is needed. for a couple of days i was without internet, during those days almost all my steam games were unavalible for me to play. only found 2 indie games i had on steam that i managed to start without steam program running. was very frustrating, hehe.

Works perfectly fine for me. Did/do you save your password? You need to do this when you still have an active internet connection, in order to use the offline mode.

I went back and forth with them forth with them for about two months awhile back over Steam refusing to let me gift any game for god knows what reason.
They have no customer support, all I ever got were instructions on how to gift a game. Inform them I can't and the message I get and they ask for a screen shot of it. Provide it... and I'm back to instructions on how to gift a game. Repeat ad nauseum.
If it weren't so pathetic it would be funny.

Eventually I gave up, whereupon Steam apparently decided I could gift games again a few weeks later.
I just take it for gospel that Steam has no customer support, and you're entirely on your own if you have any issues.
Steam as a service is fantastic, Valve as a company is invariably a nightmare to deal with.

Also, the client is too friggin heavy. Half Life 1 lags on my netbook because Steam eats all the resources. (at least 30% processor time!)

I'v gotten no "bad" support story's. Undesirable outcome, sure, but nothing I didn't expect in the first place. Plus, the response was fast (AND During a Huge Sale), so, ya....

Sorry about what happened to you though. Steam and Origin both need to start hiring from inside America instead of outside. It seriously makes it hard when the person can barley understand English, let alone make himself understandable in English (I mean, not sure how steam does it, got a auto reply myself, but I know its that way with Origin).

Similar situation here bro, I just responded to one in 7:31 p.m. and finished typing up my response at 11:59 p.m. by Support Tech Jesse, at 3-21-12

It's quite lengthy and in it i gave following reasons and etc. Not sure if it can post here, with regards to previous S.G. Community backlash.

I've heard some horror stories, but I've had nothing but positive experiences with Steam's customer support myself. Quick, civil, and most of the time they managed to fix my issues with a minimum of hassle. Maybe I'm just lucky.

At least they speak proper English, which is more than you can say for Origin's support.

Bear in mind, if you're in the EU, it's against the law to be denied a refund option for remotely purchased goods. Granted, electronic downloads are usually treated a bit differently that most other products (eg less time after purchase for a full refund), but that does not detract from your rights. You should definitely mention that, if they want to keep doing business in the EU, they should make sure to obey the law once in a while. And btw, EULAs and other licensing agreements can't restrict consumer rights established by law.

Made a pretty funny experience with the support ^^ it was because of Homefront, I was asking (living in Germany) if a UK version of Hf could be activated through a german ip and if so would there be multilanguage pack or just german (like CoD BO)
The answer from steam support was in short: they don't know I got to ask the developer support of the game. So I asked there ... and I'm pretty sure you can already guess what the answer was ...
Yes, they sended me back to Steam Support !!! ... that keeped getting back and forth 3 times, then I surrendered xD
