Sometimes it took days and a private message here on SG before the winners got their winning gift

All those blue letters forming words! Amazing! xD
Btw don't forget that a lot of the forum population, aka the ones that read :P , are subscribed to the HB monthly so they wouldn't be able to see your public one. Tbh it doesn't surprise me how many people missed that link. However the comments in that second GA kinda restore my hope xD

I've done this twice if you honestly like stats... and would like the results. One is actually running now and closes out tomorrow... the other was a few months back. Now there is a curveball in the first gibs... the games were not the same. So it is possible that more people venture over to the second that actually entered, but already owned the second game. That actually seems unlikely for the most part as the games were Part I & Part II in a series.
The second GA pair is for the same game though... so stats would be more reliable.

Oh nice! You got a much higher turn out for 2nd gib than mine.
I wanted to put a game that's "desirable" so more people see it, but I didn't have the extra game/money to make the 2nd game the same :< so my little game is rather inaccurate.
.. But next time it'll be better ^^

I've always wanted to do that... make promises of delivering something to a group of people... go imbibe in all of my favorite things while spending their money... and then one day just hopping on saying, "Project Cancelled."
The people would be pissed... they'd hem, and they'd haw... they would rant, and they would rave... but they would still be out all their money just because I spent it all and opted not to produce a damn thing, and there's not a thing they can do about it!
Yeah, I should start a Kickstarter tomorrow.
Totally unrelated... and not that this is any grand thing I'm bestowing upon you by any means... I just whitelisted you, but I thought I'd done that around the time the option became available since you generally give me a good laugh... now I am going to need to double check everyone.

I did this recently as well. A public giveaway of Stardew Valley with a description promoting a friend's twitch channel, with a small link to a private giveaway to be found by those that actually read my description. 8,472 entries in the public giveaway, 131 in the private.

This isn't really an accurate metric of how many people who entered the first giveaway actually read the text though. You would have to make both giveaways be the same game since the number of people who are interested in entering a giveaway for both Keep Talking and Party Saboteurs is waaaaaaay less than the number of people who are interested in entering for 2 giveaways for Keep Talking (with one having much better odds of winning, no doubt). It's why science experiments have control groups and then test a difference of only one factor at a time. The more factors that are different, the less conclusive results are that you can draw.
I understand that you said to comment on the second even if you don't enter, but it's still not a fair assessment since, let's be real, the majority of people who see a giveaway for something they're not interested in aren't gonna stick around to chat, especially if they're not forum-goers and aren't interested in community and whatnot.
I like the idea, but I don't think you can draw any accurate conclusions from it.

Yes, another one of those "Do you read giveaway descriptions?" posts, with a tiny twist. I figured I should share it with y'all. ^^
I made a public giveaway for Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. In the giveaway description, I put a link to an invite-only giveaway, where I asked people to please leave a comment. (Yes I was nice, I said please :3)
Both giveaways ran for 10 days. Public one end with 5381 entries, whereas the private one had 122 entries and 132 unique commenters.
Let's wildly assume that 40% of the people commented without joining, and 20% of the people clicked the link without either joining or commenting. Then an (gu)estimation of ~240 people who found and clicked the link in the public giveaway description.
....Which is less than 5% of people who read and clicked! Less than 5%! :O
Furthermore, for everyone who actually left a comment as per the second giveaway's request in the description, I added them to my whitelist, where they'll find a surprise Rocket League gib waiting for them :3
I assume this will be on many's wishlist. All they had to do was read and write.
Unexpected gifts are the best, right?
Here's to celebrate literacy!
Note: Stats above aren't meant to be accurate or conclusive. This is just a post for fun, don't take it too seriously ^^
TL;DR: Would be too ironic to put a tl;dr. So, sorry, go read the whole post :<
