Simply put, I'm considering buying myself Dark Souls (you know, once my amazon library key page gets fixed). I'm not certain I want it though. So, I'm coming to you to tell me why I absolutely must own this game.

Notes:

  • I have a 360 controller I can use

  • I don't mind GFWL (I have an xbox gamertag anyway, so no problem)

  • You are all awesome (This is where a giveaway would go if my Amazon page was working right)

Dark Souls is one of the worst PC ports in history. It's fucking laggy as hell, and you're fucked if you don't have a XBOX 360 controller. (Which you have)

My Windows XP pc runs this game faster than on my Windows 7 PC

What the sense make? I don't even...

There are some mods, at least you can change the internal resolution and make the game look good. But yeah, it's laggy... Also I didn't like the game though I like many RPGs.

+1 and im afraid if people keep buying it more will follow this path and do such lazy shit ports.

  • Ok, you dont mind GFWL neither do I
  • Ok, you have no problem with controller, thats good
  • Do you mind playing at low resolution?
  • Do you mind having low FPS or its lag, not sure which one
  • Do you mind em bugs?

Diamond covered in shit is still a diamond. But its covered in shit. Do you mind em shits?

low res - FIXED (no longer an issue)
low fps - FIXED (not an issue)
bugs - What bugs?

Haven't had any bugs, the resolution is fine for me, never had any noticable lag that I couldn't attribute to my aging graphics card crying as I force it to self-flagellate for its sins.

I was getting fed up with all the mediocre and monetized or dumbed down games coming out, but when Dark Souls got ported it reminded why I love gaming.

It's like a mix of Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda, then it's own unique take with the online aspect.
Went straight to my top 3 games.

Just make sure to get DSFix

Can't say I've ever played Monster Hunter or Shadow of the Colossus (though I've seen Shadow played before), but if it plays anything like Kingdom Hearts and Zelda, that's awesome.

DSFix?

Shadow of the Colossus was one of the best games I ever played....so amazing, they need to make a sequel, get it if you ever see it.

My only problem when I watched it being played was it looked like the fields were pretty big for no reason, so it came off as boring. Boss fights looked amazing, though.

Not sure if people would agree about it being like Kingdom Hearts, but it's the feeling I got.
DSFix sorts the resolution and graphics, not tried the latest version but it give you 60fps and some other neat stuff.

Just be careful, enabling 60 fps may get you banned from GFWL. I left it at 30 and (excluding certain areas where the framerate always drops) it looks good to me. Oh, I bought Dark Souls about two months ago, maybe more, and haven't touched any other game since. I guess that counts as a reason to buy it. I'm not really good with (English) words, but I love this game.

huh ... why would they ban you from GFWL just because you want to enjoy a game ?

Because "this requires in-memory modification of game code" and GFWL bans for such modifications to prevent cheating, I guess (the quote is from DSfix.ini).

Because

  • the gameplay is challenging, in a good way. Fights are really hard until you learn how to best deal with the specific enemy, after which it's a lot less hard, but every little goon can still wipe you out if you f*ck up. Victories are a lot more rewarding when they're fraught with danger ^^
  • the setting is awesome - it's bleak, it's depressing, yet so much beauty shines through that I found myself pushing forward just to make that world a slightly better place again.
  • the story is not served to you on a platter with sprinkles on top, you have to piece it together as you go along. That enables you to experience the story on a much more intimate level, and exploration isn't just about getting better gear and leveling up, but it's also about figuring out what led to the world being as bleak as it is.

DSFix
DSMFix

Two reasons to play the port right there.
DSFix sorts out the PC version, fixing resolutions and just about all other video issues (no FPS drops etc, better textures).
The mouse fix is not as well known as the original but it fixes everything right up control/mouse wise.

Because Dark Souls is nothing like you ever played before and not playing Dark Souls means that you will miss a rare gem in the history of gaming (except of course if you already played Demon Souls before). The game try it best to give you the feeling like you're the chosen undead in Lordran - there's no pause button and you're free to roam anywhere you want.

The combat is solid. There's ton of weapons to try, all with its unique move sets. There's no true class in Dark Souls, you can develop your character anyway you want. The boss fight is challenging. The dragons in Dark Souls is true dragon. If you're up to challenge, this game is for you. If you hate dying a lot, this game is for you.

The game is really awesome. I give it GOTY 2012. Why? Because it's not crap like CoD or something like that - it's actually really fun and hard game!

Dark Souls is great, you'll have a hard start for sure, but it will work out sooner or later.

But keep in mind that DS is not a game for everyone.

Can I ask a question in someone else's thread?
If so: I'm also considering to buy Dark Souls, I wanted to ask whether my laptop would be able to run it on medium setting. It's an Acer Aspire 5750G.
If not: forget I asked :)

You should be able to run it. But keep in mind - most laptops aren't made for gaming. You can always try it out.

I can run it with my integrated intel HD 4000 of an i5. Can you run it, yes. But will it run smoothly, I'm not sure. I think there is no graphic setting in this port. Perhaps you can try fiddling around with Dsfix.

Because it's the best RPG you'll find on Steam, I can't tell you why, but I thinks it's even better than Skyrim. The lore is great, the gameplay is epic, the world is great, everything is great.

"YOU HAVE DIED" -> which is mostly you'll encounter in this game is what makes this game awesome for me.

Because it's an RPG that has great gameplay, deep lore (which you actually have to look for) and is completely open to all manner of challenge runs (e.g. boxer [fist weapons only, no shield], Level 1, no kindling, no summons, bows only... )
