I'm teasing of this idea of trying to put a campaign in patreon as a "Dethroner for Hire" in O2Jam.

What I mean by these is people who supported my patreon campaign gets to vote for a song twice a month and I'll attempt to grab first place on the leaderboards for that song(planning to increase the limit as the are more donations).

I definitely have the skills for it, having 11 years of experience playing rhythm games, I could definitely go toe to toe with koreans leaderboards in O2Jam.

Right now, I'm currently in the top 1(round 3) in the leaderboards in the O2Jam World league (currently on-going). I'm still unsure if I'll go ahead with this idea but if people think that this has potential, I'm planning to put my this patreon campaign live once the world league ends.

  • Didn't get first place on 1st and 2nd round because I didn't know of this EZ Judge strat yet.

Youtube Video on that 1st place playthrough on the 3rd round: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIHi2nUviv4

I just need the motivation to do these on a regular basis since trying to dethrone someone in O2Jam takes a lot of time and effort, patreon can help that.

I know rhythm games has a low player base count, but Anyways, What do you think of this idea? Would love to hear some of your input or comments on this thing.

What do you think?

It's not bad, I don't think you'll get far with it though
I think it's shit
It's unique, so it has the potential

Edit: I found out your point. Its a music project. In that case people usually create soundclouds or just any place to hold artists music, and sometimes patreons, but again usually on music hosters. Patreons are designed for something more special like games, devices, projects, animations e.t.c. smillar to things like indiegogo and kickstarter. Of course sorry for misunderstanding,i was just thought at first it was sport rather than...you know what. Snice you meant rythm games, its somethat understandable as long you make music yourself. Well, great artists usually make music themselves using any means(like sound transmitors such as clothes in wardrobes e.t.c.).Ah,content...well,as i pointed out,its not that bad,but as others voted, that project will not get far. It has some kind of potential, but not so to be truly unique and sucessful. I can't correctly say what problems with it,but i think i can find em soon if i can.

no. I think you misunderstood this heavily. Patreon is there for people to have motivation to create content.

I'm planning to create video content related to "O2JAM U DETHRONING VIDEOS"

edit: btw, patreon is not like kickstarter where you need a physical item to distribute. It's mainly to support content creators

I think it's going to fall under gaming project.
I still don't understand Patreon fully so I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with this specific idea with their goal at their site.

I mean, I see people in patreon just for making gameplay videos, jim sterling make videos on shit greenlight and discusses gaming videos. So I was thinking maybe this idea is unique enough even though rhythm games has a very low player base count.

Well first of all: WOAH. Congratulations, your efforts definitely bore great skills.

I don't know what kind of occupation/job you may have, so this idea may be useless but: have you considered twitching? A lot of people appreciate seing someone they're interested in progress, so that may be worth trying. But again if you're busy and don't really have a schedule for your O2JAM training, or do not have related equipment, or motivation, scratch that idea. :/

One detail missing from your patreon page: how long does it take you to perfect a song? Implying "perfect song" and "optimised score". I believe that to know those two times would be helpful to your donators. Of course I realize that every song is different so you may not be able to perfectly point out the exact average time, but hey, you've decided to involve people with money with this (and again, you definitely have the skills for that) so being able to communicate such info will not go unappreciated.

And as for voting, I also think you will face hardships, and that you may not go far with it if you don't find your public. Still, I hope you do find it and make it pleased. Good luck to ye~

P.S.: ever tried osu!'s tournaments? Since it also has a large userbase, getting noticed there would mean getting a lot of attention to your channel.

Yep, have obligations in real life, can only play in weekends so twitch is out of option.

I did tried it and I only got max ~30s viewers. And the worse part is: I was raided by 4 chan spamming shit rofl.

On a side note, ye I did forget to put that the time needed to do it. Thanks for pointing that out.

In the video I posted here, I needed 3 days to finally break the top score. But the time is going to be variable. Like for example, at the start of the campaign doing lvl 18 and below, Probably average a day. Lvl 27 below, maybe 2 days, then above that it's going to be 3days+

As for voting, not sure yet how how to do it, and ye I expect this to not successful at all with the low player base count on rhyhm games.

Osu has a similar mode, but I don't like that only very few is mapped by a human, and it's not professionally mapped just like O2Jam.

Also I can only do 6 keys anymore (my thumb can't keep up anymore), most of the mapped osu!mania beatmaps are 7 keys
There are osu!mania tournaments but the prizes don't motivate me. O2Jam will actually give a physical trophy rofl.

First off, kudos for that performance! I used to play O2Jam back in its original PC version, so I understand just how much of a struggle it can be to perfect even just one track.

I can definitely appreciate the idea of paying for dethroning, but I suspect that your target audience will be quite limited. Sure, people enjoy watching videos of exemplary gameplay, but not many will be willing to pay for it, at least for a relatively minor game like O2Jam. With that said, I think you should still go for it. If nothing else, it will be an interesting experiment.

It's just not interesting enough to give money to watch, even if you're really good. You'd probably have better luck just uploading your best times or whatever on Youtube and monetizing them.

Patreon is great for a lot of things... this doesn't seem like one of them.

I did not know what O2Jam was before seeing your post, the crowdfunding aspect was why I clicked on it. I didn't vote in your poll and won't comment on your content because rhythm games are an area I have no knowledge of besides occasionally making people laugh at parties.

That being said, it's apparent you're passionate about it so I would encourage you to go for it. It may very well NOT be successful, but you'll learn from the experience and be able to better channel your passion/interests for future endeavors.

I'm passionate about the game, but doesn't have the motivation I had before to actually compete in the leaderboards. trying out patreon to get that motivation boost if enough people are interested on this kind of stuff
