What's your point?
Oh I see now. Didn't see this thread http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/PmzwH/steamgifts-is-a-global-community
But does that mean gibberish talk is allowed?

While I do not support the method MeHoW is using to get this issue addressed. I do find it very weird that SG is using the "we are a global community, therefore we are..." approach on the topic of language. An international/global community must have a single global language every member is able to speak and understand. This is not because of racism or anything, but because when such a large community with people from all over the world come together it will create total chaos if everyone will start speaking their own language, turning this place into a second tower of Babylon. Right now everything is fine, because the majority speaks English, but the size of said group continues to decrease with each new member we gain and as long as this rule is in effect. In the end this will only cause problems and frustrations amongst users and alienation between members, just like the tower of Babylon.

We are an international community and we do recognize that fact, as we've even had the FAQ translated to several other languages. Though, while the site is primarily in English, the point is that we will never force an "English only" policy like some of you have been crying about for months. That's such an asinine request. The point of that last thread is to decrease the amount of abuse to non-English speaking members, not to "open the floodgates" and have everyone speaking whatever language they want.

The thing is that this kind of behavior of insulting/abusing non-English members is largely fueled by frustrations and anger of not being able to understand each other, the fact that both parties sometimes think that the other is not even trying to make themselves understandable doesn't make it any better either. English speaking members especially are mad, because they see this policy indirectly supporting the use of other languages over English. Insults and abuse towards other members should indeed be taken care of, but SG should also encourage members to use English. A multi-lingual system just won't work with a community so large and connected.

Finally, someone gets it. I really do not understand the whole fact that we are a global community and everyone can speak/type/bullshit whatever language they please. There is a HUGE communication gap between a lot of people and "translating" it won't even work because it is never right and words mean different things. I am not saying everyone in the world should speak English but at least try. I would rather get the broken English than another language which I have to go through, translate and hope I can understand it when a word means a different thing. I may sound like a little prick but it is time to stop with the kiddy gloves with everyone and trying to please everyone. It is hurting the community as a whole.
Do you admins not get this? Using the kiddy gloves and allowing people to do whatever they please is HURTING the community, not helping the community. It causes problems and makes people hate each other. We need ONE language, one central language, broken or not...to be spoken here and if we sit here and go "They can speak/type whatever language they want" is going to make people hate them more. Take off the kiddy gloves, stop trying to make friends with everyone. It is time to step up, shape up, or this community is going to go through to hell in a hand basket.

So, because you can't harass non-English speaking members, you're going to exaggerate my thread and pretend to have some real message here? Either all of you couldn't comprehend the point or have considerable issue with people speaking a different language than you. Either way, the solution is rather simple: deal with it. It's not funny when people try to launch a new hypothetical apocalypse scenario involving the SteamGifts community because of a new policy to curve the amount of abuse.
The site isn't going to burst at the seams with every single person speaking a different language. That wasn't the point of that thread. It's about decreasing the amount of abuse volleyed at non-English speaking members, not to encourage each member to speak five different languages in a single comment. Comprehension would blow your mind.

Hmmm...
I'm not native english speaker, but i also think that if majority is english-speaking, i also should speak English.
Why most of people should use google translate or something like this? Why one shouldn't do it?
As i see - some russian guys send double message - russian and english translation. And some russian guys don't try to read FAQs (we have russian version of FAQ also) and ask same question again and again: how to get point, how to win etc.
Maybe force everybody to use english is not good idea, but using most known language is the decencies. IMHO
Sorry for my runglish.

Please understand that the whole message in the other thread was against insulting and abusing non-English speaking members. If you spoke English poorly, or very little of it, and someone laid in on the insults, which was getting too common, they would be suspended. The whole point was to curb this type of abuse, not promote people speaking five different languages or made up languages just because they can. Do not misinterpret this policy.

Speak whatever language you want, be know that you will only be understood by other people that speak that language. Which is why most people on here speak English. There's no need to enforce that policy, because they only people who don't speak English regularly are the ones who can't speak English at all. The people who run the site apparently don't discriminate based on linguistic ability, which I see as a good thing.
There are already rules against spamming, but if you think you can communicate with people in your 'gibberish' language MeHoW, I say go for it.

Well I for one is new to SteamGifts but reading from Lokonopa's post about the abuse that went on before this new policy was implemented really makes me think twice about joining this community. I know not "everyone" is racist(which is what it really is) but to even know that people make fun of others because of their lack of English understanding does not give you the right to make fun of him/her.
