Hi Guys,

In 2 weeks I´m in holiday for a few weeks with no internet connection. I only have a surfstick with GPRS. Is it possible to get online with GPRS in STEAM to chat with people, tracking gametime and achievements?

yes. When I moved I waited 6 months for getting my fiber connected, during this time I was solely using mobile internet - if you'll be in 3g range it is enough for chatting and general usage of Steam, just make sure to disable auto-updates in steam (both for client and for games) ;p

How do you disable automatic updates of the client? (In some 'normal' way. Without editing hosts/firewalling)

The client can't be stopped from automatic updates. It would compromise the security. There's an automatic update schedule in the settings, I don't know how that works, but try that.

Yes, Steam works fine over a 2G connection. The annoying part is when it silently downloads an update in the background eating up your bandwidth.

Pretty much has been said. I'm living with HSDPA / EVDO / lower con daily in my room and I'm doing just fine.

Definitely can't play multiplayer games, though.

depends on a game, I was able to play for example HeathStone most of the time, but - but again, it's heavilly game dependant. turn-based card game will require much less bandwitch than 16-players server-based shooter.

I think yes, I don't exactly sure about the multiplayer gaming, but anything else should be fine :p
