I am new to trading. Some one requested to trade Awesomenauts for his copy of Legend of Dungeon with me. This would be my second trade, my first trade went fantastic and I was hoping for another great trade. Everything was going well. He asked me to go first and since I was new to trading it made sense. I sent my gift copy and waited for him to send me the game. He blocked me and took the game. On his profile there are some comments saying that he was a good trader and stuff. I had no reason to not trust him. I learned my lesson and will be more cautious next time I trade. I hope that I can at least give him a bad rep so that others can avoid losing a game in a similar fashion with him.

Remove the name. Calling out is against the rules.

  1. Go to steamrep.com and paste his profile url.
  2. Copy the 17 digit number
  3. Paste it at the end of this: www.steamgifts.com/user/id/ (numbers here)

it was probably a impersonator. that user is probably not even on steamgifts. however if he/she is on steamgifts, find his/her profile with the methods already mentioned. please don't give -rep to the impersonated user. however if impersonating is not what happened, disregard this comment.

never trust steam profile rep! on your own steam profile, you can delete comments as you like. so if you have 10 +rep and 50 -rep, you just delete the 50 -rep and your profile looks like you are a good trader. the only useful rep is that on sites like SteamGifts. use Enhanced Steam, like others here said already. that way you can check everyone yourself before trading. never trust profile links people send you in chat. always check the SG profile yourself.

Always take comments on someone's Steam profile with a grain of salt. This is not at all a reliable way of telling if someone is trustworthy. Since they have control over it and the ability to delete anything negative the reason why should be obvious. That's why it's good to use a site that has a trader feedback system (such as this one) as it is harder to fake rep. Also follow people's suggestions above, get the Enhanced Steam add-on and use the side links on people's profiles to always do a background check on them before trading. Check their feedback on here (if they are registered) and also do a forum search on SteamRep. If any results come up look at them carefully. The SteamRep site also has a convenient link for a Google search on their Steam ID64 number.

Also look out for impersonators (scammers who try to mimic the profiles of legit high rep traders) and always check any link that you are given (such as one for trade feedback) to make sure that it is who you are actually communicating with.

If you are going to do trading on here I would suggest perhaps doing so with those with higher rep to begin with. Since you are just starting out you will have to go first in most cases but at least it should be unlikely that you will get scammed if you do your homework. Then once you have built up some rep you can start requesting that others with lesser rep to go first. Almost 150 trades here and I have never been scammed by following some basic rules. Not that a few haven't tried, but I have always managed to thwart them.

Yes, now I know that, I'll use Enhanced Steam to see the reliability of those whom I trade with. Luckily my copy of Awesomenauts was bought on sale while it was 99 cents so it wasn't a big loss. Thank you guys for the fast and helpful responses.
