I looked around on it earlier for Clear Sky, stumbled upon Ghost Land and am now excited for it.

Stalker is too quiet for me, have played both Shadows of Chernobyl and Clear Sky. Metro 2033 was very buggy too. But Metro Last Light probably GOTY for me. Maybe I had so low hopes due to Metro 2033 average game play. But Last Light really surprised on all levels! Variation, graphics, optimization, story, nudity(!), A.I, stealth system and overall pace. But you have to play Metro 2033 first in my opinion to appreciate it just like any older game.

defiantly s.t.a.l.k.e.r!
s.t.a.l.k.e.r has a great story, you probably connected more to the story of metro (which has also great story) because they showed it more intuitively with more talks and cut scenes and less text to read, you have to read a lot on s.t.l.a.k.e.r in order to really enjoy the story - like old time quests games.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love reading text and searching for everything myself. Main reason why I consider Morrowind the last great Elder Scrolls game. You had to actually look for the cave you had a quest in instead of having a permanent waypoint showing you.

Both are awesome.. But probably Stalker better coz its open world and have more things in it..

I can't refute that. For how highly Skyrim is praised, its surprising how often people don't bring up how barren the game is. A lot of my fun in a game like it comes out of just walking around and looking at the landscapes. Skyrim was just a lot of...snow... and more snow. Hey look over there!.....more snow.

In my opinion you cannot really 'vs' them.
As you said yourself, Metro is very linear with a decent story, while STALKER is very much focused on the open world, random encounters and non linearity. And even with some RPG elements in it.
The only thing they really have in common is the setting I think which is that post apocalyptic Soviet industrial style.
I can't really say which one I like better, but I can say STALKER is more easy to spent more hours on, by roaming around, doing side quests and the like.

I only really brought them up together since they are always talked about together. Its kinda like Battlefield vs. Call of Duty. It's hard to vs them because they are two different play styles. CoD being faced paced action, Battlefield being open map teamwork.

Will it actually be an open world FPS survival RPG with tons of customization like STALKER or will it be more like METRO? Can you give me a link to a source about this so called "STALKER in space"? I'm crazy as heck about the series and was really sad when they stopped working on the new one and GSC fell apart

Sry, little mistake :D, i listen again podcast and there "Open world FPS in space", not Stalker. They tired of apocalypse ambience.
Link to podcast, and it's in russian :)

I played STALKER a good 2-3 years ago, pretty fun game. I liked the gameplay and setting, only played the original. I never got to play Metro, I have 2033 on Steam and just bought Last Light on the 360 about two months ago and never played any of them. Metro does look like a pretty good game as well, I need to play it sometime. But my vote will have to go to STALKER, wish they would come out with more of them.

They are both great games, If any gamer has the time, these two series/titles (I guess you can grab only 1 of the 2/3 games available) are a must play.

Now before we get into this, let's take all things into factor. They are both amazing games.
I want to know your opinions though, which is better and why?
Would love to see people's pro's and cons for both games.
For me;
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Pros:
Open world, not massive like some games. But big enough to explore around and find secrets.
Difficult, it's by no means an easy game. And guns always seem to jam at the perfect moment. "Oh hey look a pseudogiant is charging me, good thing my gun won't fire."
Inventory, You're not some incredibly strong superhuman, you can only carry so much. I've found myself dropping important gear or sometimes a gun in order to carry something valuable back to a trader.
Cons:
Buggy, I won't lie, the game has a lot of bugs and problems.
Mods, As much fun as the series is, it's infinitely better when you mod it.
Story, There is a story, but it's not really that great.
Metro
Pros:
Story, Very enjoyable story. From the beginning of Artyom's story, to the end of Last Light.
Stealth it, or kill everything, Why not both? The stealth mechanic is great, made even better in LL. The gunplay works really well
Cons:
Linear, That map that shows all of Moscow's metro, why can't we visit most if not all of those metro lines?
Economy, I went into the game expecting to need to save bullets, scrounge around for what I could. Ended up being a walking armory early on and stayed that way.
What about you all? What are your opinions?
