Who owns the rights to put the game back to Steam: ID, Bethesda, ZeniMax? I need that one correctly, because I want to address a petition I am making. Thanks.

So you are positively sure it is Activision and not Bethesda or the others (for Wolfenstein 2009 in particular)?

Raven Software developed it and were a subsidiary of Activision who published it.

Unless they've sold the rights, I'd say it was Activision.

EDIT: I've read that id retained the rights to the IP while letting Activision develop the game. Then after Bethesda purchased id, they obviously owned the IP and decided they didn't want Activision selling the game.

That theory would make sense, but Bethesda bought id on June 24, 2009 and Wolfenstein (2009) was released October 19, 2009 on Steam. Obviously those dates don't line up, so I'm confused.

Thank you for deeper analysis of the subject. I already written text of the petition (on change.org) I just need decision maker (probably publisher). And this forum post from 2012 claim that Bethesda owns the rights. I think I'll go with Bethesda.

It's quite possible that it took them a couple months of looking things over and deciding what to do before pulling the rights to sell it so I think Bethesda is a safe bet for the owner of the IP.

The sequel is being developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda who are both subsidiaries of ZeniMax so that's another good reason to assume Bethesda owns it.

id wager the couldnt kill the release with activision without massive penalties and the minute they could claw back publishing rights for wolfenstein they did :)

I know a guy who has the game in his inventory but hates trading. Maybe you should petition to him, lol.

this happened followed by many many pending lawsuits. . I'm not too sure what happened to rights but I know that the game was held like people say, the reason for the steam removal of the game last year remains a mystery. Possibly due to a lawsuit with a non-disclosure agreement. . . or due to the pending release of the new game. Time may tell but I honestly had to go to memory to acquire this info.
