Yes. I want to see "Developer" and "Increased slots" as two different kind of accounts.

They can increase your slot without promoting you to developer status. That happened to me once when I gave 50 copies of a game, but they didn't change my status. But it tells people that somebody is, indeed, a game developer. Maybe they should remove it altogether. I don't know.

Why would they think "Developer" is a staff personnel? This is a not a game development website. :P The Developer role is for... game developers. It's clearly stated on the FAQ:
EDIT: Just saw this. Haven't thought of that perspective... Now I can see where the confusion can come from.
I'm a game developer or publisher looking to promote my game through giveaways. How do I get started?
If you're looking to promote a game, the best option is to create a featured giveaway. These giveaways are displayed at the top of our homepage, and receive the highest visibility. Featured giveaways are created in the same manner as every other giveaway, and our site will automatically feature giveaways on our homepage if they contain 50 copies of a game or greater, and if they're ending within four days. We feature up to two giveaways at once, and if more are available, then two will be displayed at random, with preference given to giveaways of higher copies. Please note, the giveaway will only be displayed to users that have permission to join, and if you choose to limit your giveaway to a particular Steam group, it will only be visible on the homepage to members of that group. If the limitations on your account do not allow you to create a giveaway for 50 copies or greater, then please contact support. We'll upgrade your account to developer status, allowing you to create giveaways up to 100,000 copies.

I didn't read the whole topic, but I didn't see anybody externalizing that they thought he was staff. The way I see it, they just wanted easy entrance to a whitelist. But I may be wrong. Anyway, the role iss useless, I think, since you can get increased slots without the role, so it may as well be removed.

Normal users have 300 giveaway per day limit. Developers can make much larger giveaways.

Reading the FAQ is the problem :/
Many users don't understand english, many that do are too lazy. I do not mind if the second group gets mislead by the Developer tag, but I think there should be something done to protect the first group.
Of course one can argue that people that do not understand sufficient english, should not join the site.

Yeah, and we could also argue that not knowing the rules is not an excuse. But in this case, it's not a rule breaking issue, but a confusion regarding something. Like I said up there, staff can increase slots (as far as I could see, the only difference) without giving somebody the Developer status, so, it's kind of useless anyway. It could be taken out.

What makes anyone think devs are Staff ?
Like what does a dev has to do with the staff personal ?
I dont see a point to remove the tag tbh .... survival to the fittest as they say ...
But srsly tho , ppl should use their head every now and then

To be fair Developer on most sites/forums/etc refers to the people that work on the site function (Admins own the site and make the calls, Mods keep the riffraff in line, Devs make the improvements/changes/etc..).
I don't blame anyone for getting confused if they haven't seen the context of the developer tag on this site somewhere else first.

it explains what it is, but were I a new user, I would not know how to interpret these things. It's really not clear what the developer role is from looking through that, unless you already have a good idea what to look for.

I thought the primary goal of a game dev was to promote their game and that's it. But that's just me. If you get extra slots either as a dev or through some special request, no CV should be rewarded through any of those GA's, thus leaving all those profiles at their same level. Thereby a dev normally would remain at level 0 and a normal using requesting special slots should also not be rewarded extra CV.
Whatever new title "developers" get on this site is actually irrelevant. Call them "spiders", maybe people will be a little more thoughtful about WL someone "special" like that.
But meh, same shit, different day anyway.

I'd prefer if it was called GAME developer, and not developer because it implies they are a site developer kinda.

Well, a lot of members and newcomers think "Developers" are staff personel and they are trustworthy like this one happened before. So, I suggest you to remove developer tag while they still have their developer options.
What do you think?
I hope nice developers don't take offence. :3.
