So lately I've been getting lots of random friend requests on Steam. Like 3 in the past week alone.

I look at the profile, and the typical red flags appear:

-Not many games and few or none of them mutual
-Not many friends
-Obvious link promising something like 'free cash'

So I wonder what you guys do when you get these requests? I've been reporting them all for 'malicious activity', stating that they are trying to 'steal my account or information'.

The thing is I don't click on their links, so I am not sure if they actually are using malicious links but I assume it and report it anyway.

Good logic or Potato logic?

How do you deal with random friend requests?

View Results
I am very trusting and accepting and I love and add everyone.
I ignore them.
I block them.
I report them.
I don't have this problem, no one wants to bother scamming me.
Potatoes are the true scam.

Oh, I do the same with those scammers. But when I read the title I thought I was going to be about legit "random friend requests". Like from actual people with legit accounts - high levels, lots of games, mutual friends and/or groups etc...

I add them and ask why did they send a friend request. If the profile looks suspicious, I add a nickname "Scammer?" to them. More often than not they aren't online when I confirm their request, so I give them some time to answer. Sometimes I remind them that we can be in vastly different timezones and they should reply even if I'm offline ATM. If they fail to reply in a reasonable time (I'd say, a day or two), I remove them. If they turn out to be scammers or send phishing links, I report them.

Overall, you don't need to be afraid of random adds. They cannot harm you unless you do something REALLY stupid. Like using your steam login and password on fake sites or trading your items fro nothing but promises in return.

And I had some successful trades with people with "suspicious" profiles. So I prefer at least hear what a person has to say before ignoring him/her
