Amnesia is made by Frictional Games, he mentioned that... The entire game is based around hiding from the stupid beast things and hiding in closets...

Well, I was going to say Skyrim before I saw you wanted horrific. But, I will still say Skyrim because you can add in plenty of mods that make the game scary in a way. In Skyrim, you can add in the "Frostfall" mod which makes the colder areas of Skyrim the scariest places ever, because not only do you have to keep warm, you have to set up a tent, and fight off the sabre cats and dragons. You can also add in mods like "Granitehall" which adds in a horrific short story and stuff like that.
But if you are really looking for horror games, the only horror games I own (that I can think of at the moment) are Penumbra and Amnesia, which both make you run from danger and hide in closets...

Yeah, I bought it on sale so I paid $50 for Skyrim, Hearthfire, Dawnguard, and then Morrowind and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe... So if most people on here are correct, this Thursday when the sale starts you could get it for fairly cheap then.

I found Alan Wake and Thomas Was Alone to be very immersive. Also excellent games.

I so want to recommend System Shock 2, because I found it to be one of the most immersive game that I've ever played. But sadly there is plenty of fighting in it.
And the first half of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is pretty darn immersive as well. There is some running, but mostly it is sneaking around, solving puzzles and finding you way around enemies (Then you get a gun, and it goes downhill from there. Still, the game is worth playing (and paying for) for the first half)

Seems like we have the same interests, so let me list a few games in my backlog.
If I'm onto something here, I definitely recommend Penumbra. Fantastic game, great story, immersive. Like Amnesia, they recommend you play it with earphones in a dark room. That, as far as I'm concerned, is the definition of immersion.

Lone Survivor. You fight to keep your sanity in a post-apoctalyptic world that may or may not be your entire imagination.
Home. So many people have said it's a very bad game but I loved it, it absolutely terrified me.

Chivalry is pretty good for that, I actually move my head sometimes trying to push my sword further into the enemy's face... When you're charging into battle with your brothers in arm, arrows flying right beside you, everyone screaming at the top of their lung, you definitely feel like you're on the battlefield. Bonus immersion points for using headphones :D

I'm looking for immersive games. That kind of games that makes you think you are inside the screen.
Suspense (horrific suspense, if I may?) is a genre that comes with that kind of games most of the time, imo. And they generally are in First Person. I'm avoiding shooters, though.
Something among the lines of Scratches (let's NEVER talk about that ending, ugh) or its sequel, Asylum (which has a playable "demo", go for it).
Heck, maybe even some Dear Esther (which is awesome) even if I'm trying to go closer to the "horror" genre.
I don't want jump scares (or at least I don't watn a game that relies on jump scares to "scare"), I don't want to fight and I don't want tu run because there's a monster behind me and is going to eat my shoes. There are plenty of games for that and I can look for them myself (if you want games like that look no further than anything made by Frictional Games, I love those guys).
I'm looking for immersive, atmospheric games in pretty much any form, size and whatever.
Have a nice day!
EDTI:
A kind sir mentioned this, scroll down here and thank him. Then go and "play" (and by play I mean suffer).
I am also mentioning Hyde. Free, short and pretty interesting.
And just found Kraven Manor on indieDB five minutes ago. At the moment I'm downloading it.
