Thanks for accepting my group invite request. I migrated my Windows system about 10 months ago to Linux Mint and I love it.

Had some problems first with heavy screen tearing and almost gave up on migrating, but currently with Openbox + Compton as window manager and Mate as desktop manager, it works great.

But I hope Valve get EAC working on Proton, some multiplayer titles still won't work.

I'll definitly do! With Steam Deck coming out soon, it's in their best interest to support Linux imo.

Happy Cake Day btw! :)

Is it possible (or would it even be with the Steam API) to add exceptions for apps for like 3D Mark. They do not support family sharing so it needs to be run on an account owning it.
I've always run that on any new build I've made for others or any laptop I've bought before getting rid of the bundled OS.

It sounds like a valid use case, I'll consider it.

It'll be a whitelist with only very carefully selected titles that we don't classify as gaming and yet you can't launch through family sharing.

I'll let you know once I have a working implementation or any other update on that. Should be done within a few days max. However, I have to gather some feedback around it first.

So, I guess the purpose of this is to promote Linux support to developers, that's cool.

It appears you must share playtime with ArchiBot.

SG:

if you wish to enter giveaways, the site will ask you to switch to a public Steam profile once a week to bring your account up-to-date.

I always keep my games and wishlist public, but it's impossible to share playtime with only friends while keeping game details public.

I'm uncomfortable with sharing playtime with everyone, so please consider changing this in the future. Is there a way to allow ArchiBot to use Steam API access to my game details instead?

ArchiBot already uses Steam API. SG requires to know your game ownership for giveaways eligibility, ArchiBot requires precisely your playtime to determine that you meet the rules. There is no going around that, but we allow people with private profiles (including private playtime details) to verify manually each 2 weeks, similar to SteamGifts. You can read our FAQ about that.

Sadly if you're unwilling to make your playtime details public and also unwilling to verify manually, then you're not eligible to join the group as we're unable to verify that you meet the requirements (and will continue doing so in the future).

I'm not sure if you actually need playtime_2weeks if you're matching GetRecentlyPlayedGames appid already, as it already only pulls 2 weeks of recently played stuff.

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steam_Web_API#GetRecentlyPlayedGames_.28v0001.29

I was talking about if you could use an API key somehow (OAuth probably), giving it personal access to the info instead of having these details public. Sign-in to ArchiBot through Steam?

Yes I do, those are two standalone checks where second one (recently played games you linked) is only verified during group join, members do not need to pass it. The first one is far more objective, but needs to be parsed on usual basis, which is what ArchiBot is doing.

As a side note, if you by any chance have profile/game details set to "friends only" instead of "private", then it's possible to add ArchiBot to your friendlist and it'll be able to verify you automatically without a need of executing the command. This however doesn't apply if you're keeping your profile/game details completely private - you'll need to manually verify in this case.

This isn't right, I'm getting the following using permissive settings:

Linux Gaming Exclusively verification:
Member? No
Overall Linux playtime? Passed
Recent Linux playtime? Unknown
---
Eligible to join the group? No

EDIT: maybe steam's just down or slow right now. https://steamstat.us/

EDIT2: it was just steam being down.

This applies to membership already, which doesn't require second check to pass. And first one passes, as expected, with friends only option.

You only need to pass second check once during joining. See https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/jUERg2D

And yeah, Steam had its issues as well just now. Regardless of that, friends only option works for passing the first check, but you need to ensure to have checkbox unchecked, as checking the checkbox means ArchiBot will be unable to get playtimes it needs.

I'm not sure whether it'll work for the second check, but even if it doesn't, you can change it to public temporarily to pass it, after which only first one is relevant to you, and that one I've verified myself that can be passed with friends only + checkbox disabled.

I try to play on Linux whenever I can. Unfortunately my graphics card doesn't support Vulkan, so I can't ditch Windows for now. Would have done it years ago otherwise :)

Good luck with your group :)

does using Geforce NOW on linux break my membership? I've just paid attention to it :c
Edit. Just checked the previous replies, It's unfortunate but rules are rules, for the moment I'm leaving the group in order to keep it fair, thanks for having me :)

Joined the group to support Linux :). Nice to have a few targeted groups as sometimes I like keys/giveaways to count towards a specific platform. I believe many developers don't have a good understanding where sales actually are originating from. Mst stores are unable to keep track of platform of purchase, and even if they tried they would are unable to do it accurately (because browser spoofing/obfuscation).

Well this is an interesting thread I have stumbled upon. Do you guys have any tutorial or links to where I can learn more about Gaming on Linux? I haven't used Linux since my University days and that was almost a decade back. I wouldn't mind fiddling around with Linux again. It would be cool.

Addition to Nobbu, maybe this one would be helpful. Think of it an overview since it's a short video.

Edit: I know the video is kinda old now and the things got a lot better in the last year but still could give you an idea.

You don't need much, pick a distro you like, install as your OS, and you can play your Steam games right away.

Feel free to join our chat if you have some further questions or need extra encouragement :3.

I love this initiative! I'd wish seeing more developers making their games Linux runnable if not native. I hope you get noticed.

As for me, I'd like to join, but apart from a two weeks quarantine (I idle for cards in Windows), I'm playing Epic/non-Steam games on Win. I understand that to go with the spirit of the group, I would have to run them through Wine or ditch them to remain in the group.

Hello! You should check out my profile. Been on Linux for years and just been getting into Steam gaming for quite some time. I'd say about 90% of my personal taste in games have been working great.

I see that you've sent group membership request but you don't have your game details public as per the information on our group page - you need to make those public so our bot can verify you. You can read more on our group page.
