It gives any individual a greater chance of winning, whereas the ones that take days end up with too many entries. On the other hand, shorter giveaways will be missed by many people, so chance timing in visiting this site really matters.

Overall, I wouldn't mind if all giveaways were 1 hour or less.

Personally, I think about 12-24 hours is the optimum time for a giveaway. Hour long giveaways give people that have no job and no school an advantage over those of us with actual lives.

I'm for 24 hour minimum. Everyone should get a chance at a public giveaway and not miss out because they have to sleep.

To be fair, those of us with "actual lives" typically also have the ability to buy shiny things ourselves

unless the kids who have no job/school are trust fund babies, in which case I don't know what to say. winning things is always a nice feeling, so maybe they're in it for that :d

I agree with heyytonytony, giving an advantage to people with lots of free time and no income is not a bad thing.

I see no reason to limit the time frame for giveaways. Creators are free to choose as they please. However, the chances of winning a one hour giveaway are of course substantially higher than the alternatives.

I really like the opinions presented in this forum...

It gives the individuals here great pleasure to read about the pros and cons of short or long giveaways. On the other hand, some people will miss out on getting to read this very valid thread, so chance timing in visiting this site really matters.

Overall, I wouldn't mind if you made another thread like this sometime soon.

Well it is up to the creator but I think when it is something small that many users already have or were mass granted (like The Ship), there's no shame in an hour giveaway, because it is just one more small entry in a sea of giveaways. There will be many more, so why not help the odds for a few people who were on at the right time.

But when it is something big or special that many users probably want like Dishonored or whatever next big name game that comes out, ideally it should be open for awhile since there won't be many giveaways of that particular game.

But again, a creator can do whatever they want, and that's what's best since it is their game that they're giving away. All of my items were low value to me personally and I wanted to be on when I got rid of the game as soon as possible (though that didn't always work out...).

I find 12h is ok, everyone has the chance to participate.
In the end it's a matter of choice and it's good, that we have the choice.

I love making 1 hour giveaways because it is just more fun, especially if they have a contribution cap
