It's funny because out of the gazillion games I have on my account and all sorts of trash that managed to pass through Greenlight, this one actually looks pretty decent and I was genuinely interested to play it. I even messaged the dev on Desura a day before this topic has been made asking him about Steam keys he promised and where he stands on that now. I never got a response although he read my message and that is fine. What is not fine is how he seem entirely convinced that we are all bunch of traders and key resellers here on the site called Steam Gifts.

Yeah I would have voted if not for the giveway and if he simply changed his mind on the matter, I'd have just shruged and made plans to buy it anyways, but after he went so far as to spit in every SGifts member's face.... yeah, NO.

" question concerning the desura free key promotion
do we will get steam keys for the game when it will be released on steam or not? ^^ "
Devs reply
"If the game receives enough support that it actually makes it onto Steam, I'll be sure to get Steam keys for everyone. For now, if you already downloaded the game through Desura, you can enjoy playing the game using the copy you just downloaded! You can even download the ZIP version if you don't like the Desura client. "
Yes this is a promise of keys for those who got the game for free on desura
"The thing that still holds me back from wanting to give them keys is this weird sense of entitlement in gaming culture" (from his tumblr)
"In the end, the final result doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal." Being this oblivious about his dev carrer ^^

It'll be in a $1 tier bundle in a month anyways.
All these "free game for a vote" games bundle up ridiculously fast.

Another moronic dev with as much moral fibre as a room full of lawyers grabs an uzi and ventilates his penny loafers.
Well played, sir!

I'm relatively new. What are some examples of games that weren't free, that after purchase and greenlight the devs opted to NOT provide steam keys? In other words, where you've paid for the game but just added steam DRM and not had it available to the customers without an additional purchase of the same game.
Or does this only happen with free games?

The dev behind that did two greenlight bundle games and denied giving keys to both.

Seems like dev has another game on Desura: Star Runner
can't find it on greenlight, though :(

The developers has made a fatal mistake :
First mistake, by "too quickly" conclude that SG is just a bunch of key resellers. Well, it is not. Most of the people here are giving out keys for free. Yes, some games (for example : Racer 8) are free (for a limited time), some users could miss it, so giving out a free game is not a really big deal.
Second, the developer don't made any attempt to say that he has mistaken, or he is sorry. If he doesn't mean "everyone" as "everybody that has voted for his game" he should apologize, and maybe people will forgive him. He has made a promise, no matter how stupid/smart his promise, he must deliver it. While we think that it is unwise for the developers to gave out Steam keys for free upon voting for him, it is his right to do that, and he must fulfill that promise.
While some people focused on how games should not use "vote for keys" tactics, I bet the anger of the people came from the broken promise, not how the game is greenlit. If Postal 2 uses the same tactics, and you are given a key for your vote, I bet not one of you (and me too) will be angered on how Postal 2 got greenlit.

He did not promise keys for voters, but for everyone who owned the game on Desura. That's after he ran a free promo where anyone could add the game to their Desura account for free. Now that he got Greenlit, since the free promo didn't yield the results he hoped for, he's going back on his word.

Glad to see he's working on making things right. He might avoid my black list after all.

better a bit late than never., good luck trying to put out the fire that's been started. Gamer rage is a very steady fuel that's hard to extinguish, just look at Gamergate.

Good, hopefully more of this instances will make people think twice about voting for a game for the sake of getting free keys. Such giveaways are making more garbage to go through the greenlight system. Vote for a game you actually want to support.

Is cod even considered a game? Is Assasins Creed Unity even considered a game?/etc

Original thread
Desura page of the devs where he announced that there will be no keys for voters
somehow I smell another PR meltdown coming..
the dev, Jeddy decided to add steam keys for the desura ones, hes currently working on it to make it work. With that being said it would be nice if people stopped downrating the game/sending hate messages on Twitter and alikes since the issue is being fixed as of we speak. He said he will post about it as soon as its live and I will let you guys know as well
