No, I'd say you should go ahead assuming things if there's an ever so slight chance that doing so actually affects the outcome to the positive as in this case ;)

Groupees, love to put those coins in bundles, then restrict them to crappy music bundles... I have like 3 of those Anti matter coins floating around and can never use them as any high priced bundle is immediately restricted from using them.. grrr..

Meh.

For old games (like those from Interplay) that don't take advantage of any Steam features anyway and are even sometimes inferior to the versions on GOG, I'd rather have them on the latter if anything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Some user says "GOG version is better" - it works on better emulation, yeah. But I play my retros mostly only on Steam. And all worked well. What's the problem?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That GOG ensures the games are actually playable on modern systems. Steam ensures that there is an EXE file you theoretically can start up. At the luckiest, the Steam version works about the same as the GOG version, but apart from publishers not updating their games on GOG, I am yet to find a single game that works better on Steam than GOG.

Or they use a GOG version on steam.

Steam ensures that there is an EXE file you theoretically can start up

And that's the best case scenario, after letting games slide with no exe files at all :D

Interesting. So when you're running ASF on a server there's no exe involved ?
Just asking out of curiosity... I know as you've pointed out repeatedly the hardware to do that is just ~ 30 bucks but I'm afraid setting it up like that would be beyond me plus the desktop app fulfills my needs very nicely.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Of course there is no sort of any exe when running ASF on Linux, exe is windows-specific.

This thread is not a proper place to discuss ASF internals though.

That's a lot of spaces before V3?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just 2 (not intentional) but the whole V3 part has become redundant by now as I kept V2 additionally for a while after migrating to V3 because it took me some time to get used to the new key redemption modes but I looked into it and deleted V2 quite a long time ago.

Yeah not better. (If they don't use the GOG version) But it works.
I have no problem with any game, but I understand why people play retros on GOG.

It still surprises me that out of all 3rd party stores and bundles, Groupees are the one who somehow managed to have good contacts with Interplay and keep getting Steam keys of their games. It's not their first bundle with Interplay games, i remember last Remute bundle had almost entire Redneck Rampage series.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And thus the vicious cycle continues. Groupees gets overlooked and downplayed due to Humble being seen as superior by many people, thus devs of the best games start to refuse Groupees featuring their games, and only hurting Groupees in the long run. They need to start considering Groupees as a better name for games than retroactively hurting them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They were always niche, the "best " publisher they could got was Daedalic I think, with Edna &Harvey, Fire and Anna's Quest. Most of their games were well below the average indie-bar of HB, or even BS/Fanatical, which is pretty weird, because they really did lack good quality, known indies for the vast majority of the time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

each major bundle thing has a niche

HB= general high quality even at the one dollar level.

BS/Fanatical: costs in-between low and high tiers of HB but pretty good quality

Indiegala: Rather low quality but sometimes lines up a great indie bundle often at a cheap price.

Groupees: Back in its better days a mix of good GL stuff, some nice indies (fruitbat factory stuff, and even Hellsinker) and some VN bundles; but these days.... there's been a real drop in quality gamewise (dunno about comic/etc bundles) Hard to say what caused it but it's quite clear (even compared to HB post IGN buyout)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep. Groupees never was on par with HB in getting the big names, but they did get interesting and unique stuff - often very good ones of that field. Now somehow that's gone.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah and annoyingly enough they're not quite at the point where one could 100% blow off their stuff without risking missing out on a gem.

Remute stuff has been consistent (maybe not consistently great, but once you get a grasp of his taste, you can have an idea of what to expect)

They had good BeMine but now it's a trash. Haven't purchased anything from Groupees for the last 2 years or so.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Groupees gets overlooked and downplayed because they have an abysmal reputation of honouring their contracts and after a time, many indie devs just did not want to get near them. And this is not even touching the while Be Mine Anniversary controversy from last year.

But Interplay games are "expensive" in sales. So it's a great way to get it cheaper.

I mean all released Rampage games (exept Redneck Rampage: Possum Bayou - but this is an other tropic) + Titus The Fox (retro too) + Adventures Of Hendri for 2.50$. It's awesome!
The games cost 6$/€ on Steam during the sale. (per game)

Though I'm more surprised Interplay still around considering they were dirt broke not too long ago. Maybe they found a buyer and haven't said anything?

Groupees is kinda lacking on gaming bundles lately, if you want Music and crap, Groupees is the way to go, their game selections normally leave alot to be desired, it's typically very over bundled stuff or games that are so horrible developers have no choice but to give them away.. Now groupees is like my fifth bundle site, just due to the fact they almost never do game bundles anymore.. it's like Comics, music, non game software.. then a game bundle with like 3 - 4 games, and of those 2 of them have been bundled over 15 times.. ugh..

Hey, the bundle page is now up: https://groupees.com/vip4
Should I make a thread with a poll & other info (guesses / confirmed / number of games / chart) or do you prefer keeping this one for this purpose? In the latter case, are you able to keep it up do date / add the full chart on launch, add new info as it comes up etc?

yes, please make a new thread with a chart. I love how you make those each time.

I purchased every Interplay game upon release because they never saw bundles or even discounts beyond 30%. Now they keep giving them away. :D They’ve cost a fortune, but I’ll support retro games for life! :D

Comment has been collapsed.

I got them all at gog at -90% (bundle discount), but it was quite a while ago, now they rarely go below -50% and some of them had a 2x increase of the base price.

that said, I'm hoping to get this one in the bundle: http://store.steampowered.com/app/630690/Interplay_Solitaire/

I bought them all at GOG as well for a 50% sale quite a while back. They have a great catalog.

And yeah, Solitaire is the most expensive single title I purchased at $15 during a sale but would be nice to see it here too. I plan to buy this bundle to make giveaways as I love this catalog and love to share retros. :D
