Actually immersion is one of the quickest ways to learn a language, and what the OP wants to do is kind of similar.

That's true. But I disagree that it's similar to what OP wants to do. There's a difference between living in a country where people usually speak that language and you're forced to talk with them and read all kinds of text, books, watch TV, listen to their music... and listening to someone speaking over a mic while playing a game. How could you even focus on what is that person saying?
I'm sure there're some sites, where you can find people to talk with while they speak their native language and you speak yours, so you can both learn something from each other.
This feels like OP wants a free teacher, without the need of doing anything but playing the game.

I agree. I don't think talking on a mic while playing games will help properly learn any language. As you wrote, it does not really immerse the person; the best way to learn a language is to speak, read, write and listen to it. And when you play a game, you don't focus all that much on learning a language, pronunciation, etc.
He would just end up learning some random words and maybe a few sentences. It is a start, but he won't get very far with just that. To actually learn a language you need to do more than that.
Especially Japanese does not seem like a language you can easily pick up in a casual setting :S

Do you try learn anything in that way ?
I learn a lot. got 2 friend's from Germany and for us it's normal thing to play and speak about diffrence thing's like politic's, live etc.and from time to time i just ask for somethng in german language. When i don't understand them i just ask for repeat or useing chat.
and NO i don't needed free teacher. I just wanna get fun from game and that i learn something new. I take Italian for trolling Italian guy's speaking to me sei italiano ( check my nick and you understand why) and Japanise, because it's hard one.
and Funny moment. Do you focuse on game when you play on the same map xxx time ? i play on left 4 dead 2 on expert mode and still we have problem with speaking because everyone got a lot of info to share from one day.
If you play in new game ok i understand that you must focus on this game because you don't know who wait for you in that corner, but in l4d2 or dota 2 i don't find any suprise, bacause i know it ! then i just play like robot and that's why i can focus on this what i hear.

Good point; if you play the same games and maps over and over again, you don't need to focus as much. And though I didn't state it, I didn't think you were necessarily trying to find free teachers (you don't need to have a teacher to learn a language).
And nope, I don't learn everything (any subject, etc.) in that way. I simply stated it is the best way to learn a language properly (with that I mean that someone can speak and write at a advanced intermediate or proficiency level).
Do you talk politics and such in German? If so, then I can imagine how it would work for you. Either way, it is just a difference of opinion ^^

To learn italian this way is quite possible but japanese? I speak german, english, french, spanish and turkish (just a little) but its very hard to learn japanese this way. Whats with bubble.com? I never used it but i heard a lot of positiv feedback about it

I think I cannot help you in game since I play often other games according to your profile, but if you wish, you can add me and ask sometimes things, or just have a small chat, I'll try to explain you the best I can. I'm referring for what concerns italian language :)

No nie, tylko Roverovervallen vallen overal voor. Het valt voor dat bij een roveroverval een rover voorover over een roverval valt. Maar een rover heeft het er wel voor over om bij een roveroverval voorover over een roverval te vallen. Want voor een rover schiet er bij een roveroverval altijd wel wat over!

Actually gaming and watching movies is a good way to learn things. My English experience was far ahead compared to all of my classmates, my reading expression wasn't the best i got to admit. But my writing put everyone in the class pretty much down.
All of this thanks to my early addiction to video technology (started when i was 5) by the time i was 6/7 i already knew the alphabet in english and numbers up to 100 while the rest of the class learnt the alphabet and numbers up to 10. My brother went through a similiar thing in life, i write better than him but he speaks better than me since i like to eat words because i'm hungry and crap happens.
This all depends on the person itself, me and my middle brother for example, i learn languages kinda easier than the average person in society trying to learn a new language, i went through the same with French and then i started writing English and French at the sametime and things went to hell (gave up on French since i never liked it in reality and was making me confused on my English skills). I gave up on French like 6-7 years ago and back then i was speaking nearly as good as my current English (which is not at it's best anymore since i stopped having English classes that used to keep my skills sharp, it's getting rusty and at times i seem to go derp or have a complete blank moment and forget how to properly speak/write). I'm not sure if i'm still capable of learning new stuff like old days in school, i highly doubt it, i grown up to be lazy like hell, i was kept in the line young, changed to a public school were everyone and their mother never cared about teaching properly, so i went with the flow and ended up lazy when it comes to learning new stuff.
Who's to blame for that? Sure as hell wasn't my fault, it's like a process in life where you go from good to bad after changing something from within, everything get's messed up at some point.
tl;dr
Story of my life, could have kept going and write a book but i don't wanna. 'CAUSE TOO LAZY TO FINISH IT, LOL.

I know and if you speak with someone its easy to learn, but harder to write. i got the same as you see, but from time to time i just ask someone to show me how to spell it and that's how i learn. I learn in that way German language when i was in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2 months. 2 months !
I know that i don't write English fluently but when you don't use language even for half yar you forgot everything and when you will be know more then 2 foreign languages you understand me ( i say it to Defias)

True dat.
I nearly can't speak any Russian anymore. :(
Same goes with my English, my spoken English is even worse, than my written English and I could speak it fluently without an accent.
I really want to learn Russian again and also Japanese, but it doesn't make any sense if I don't have the chance to use it actively.
Meeeeh...
Good luck with your plan! :)
Don't let those people get you demotivated, the worst thing with the spoken Japanese language is the pronouncation.
