I've never played Skyward Sword as I skipped both the Wii and Wii U and I despise being forced to use motion controls, so given that I played Wind Waker on Gamecube and loved it, I am going to go with that. Some people find all the sailing a bit tedious (at least until you can fast travel) but to me it added to the sense of exploration and adventure and was a plus.

Thanks for the replies. Turned out there was a general sale in addition to the personal coupon, so I was able to buy both games. I bought Wind Waker HD first, played it a little with my kids and they enjoyed it, and I just now bought Skyward Sword.

As a big Zelda Fan I played both and I recommend Wind Waker, especially for the Kids, at least ít´s IMO the slightly better game overall

Not Steam or PC related, but hopefully you people could offer an opinion.
I bought a Wii U recently, and Nintendo is offering me 30% any one Zelda title. I'd prefer something my kids (aged 6 and 8) could get into, I probably won't play it without them. I haven't played any Zelda game except the start of Twighlight Princess of the Wii, and I don't want anything retro. I narrowed it down to these two games. Skyward Sword has some appeal in that it has motion control, which I find appealing. Wind Waker HD is a native Wii U game, so supports off-TV play, which might mean it would get played more.
Any other thoughts?
