There are only four paragraphs on that page. I'm sure you can figure it out. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Yoyo drops the "Free Edition" in the future and makes "Standard" free.

I wish that they'd put the Master Collection on sale when they do these promos. I wasn't able to get it for a multitude of reasons during the Steam Winter sale, but now that I can potentially afford to do so at the sale value they had, it's at full price. . . .

It's only a matter of time, just a thing of patience. Also, if you own a professional license, they will occasionally email you a coupon for the master collection.

I only have standard (purchased it a year ago) because I felt that jumping to professional when I knew I was going to go for the master collection was a bit . . . . redundant.

Thanks BTW, got a copy.
I'm wondering what peoples opinions are on how this compares with the opposition? I spent a week or so playing around with Unity about a year ago (so probably forgot everything) and quite liked it. I chose to try Unity at the time because I preferred the licensing compared with the likes of CryEngine etc (just in case I did actually make something) and already know c# which it uses.
So what do you guys reckon? This or Unity?

Wayyy different, Unity has a lot more options, flexibility, and engine possibilities. Both websites have great examples of what you can do with each. GM uses its own script, GML, and has a lot of built-in exporting modules.

Depends on your interests. Game Maker is better designed for 2D and is cheaper, while Unity is better designed for 3D and is more expensive, but has more exportation options if you acquire devkits for consoles. (Game Maker doesn't support console distribution, but has upgrades to be capable of Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, HTML5 and Tizen)

Most of you probably remember the standard edition being free, but if you want, you can now upgrade those to Pro for $35 (usually costs $99). If you don't already have one, that same page says the offer for Standard is back on again.
