quick question regarding steam's extra copy

some games, gives you a copy for your friend once you buy them , what happens if you bought them as a gift? do you get the second copy in your inventory? or does it go to your friend's?

I think to the friend.
I think the person redeeming it gets the extra copy, the same way that before when you bought a gift, the extra copies showed up after you used the gift on an account.

i have, and still am even while talking to you now, its just hard to find the right phrasing, you know? " emm what happens when you gift a game with free copies?"
i got alot of answers, most of them arent for my question
