By medicinal chemistry, you mean Biochemistry, correct? At least that's what I learnt as a medical student. Second worst subject for me!

Nope. i had biochemistry in my 2nd year, but medicinal chemistry is completely different. it's just the chemical structures of medicine and you have to recognize the structure, know the biochemistry, the chemistry, the indications, the side effects, the pharmacokinetics, etc... it was 700 pages of hell :)

Pharmacology was a seperate subject for me. The structure and biochemistry of the medicine was given less importance for us though. Indications, contra-indications, side-effects and uses were the main focus for us. What course are you doing, anyway?

pharmacology is also a different subject. I'm studying pharmacy: medicinal development. so i kinda understand that we, the ones studying medicinal development, need to kinda know what medicinal chemistry is about because that's how you develop medicine. however we have classes together with the ones studying pharmacy: pharmaceutical care. they really don't need that kind of chemistry in a pharmacy.
But basically medicinal chemistry is a "selection" subject. They want to filter out only the best. If you don't pass that exam you're not allowed to start your internship/ get your diploma. My friend told me that a professor told her that there' way too many students this year and not enough room for us in the labs next year. So that's probably why our medicinal chemistry prof started giving such difficult structures instead of the usual ones he used to give in the past.

Too many people, not enough seats......the story of my life! XD
Have faith in yourself, and you will get your spot. Wish you good luck!

i'm studying pharmacy: medicine development. so i will end up in a pharmaceutical company (the bad guys in every game). If my grades allow it i'll do an extra short master as an industrial pharmacist, which makes you a qualified person/ quality engineer. not really sure though. last year i really wanted to get a phD in medicinal chemistry but this year it made me suffer too much
