I've recently made 10 bucks selling my spare trading cards and shit. I finally see the use of getting the shit games that you get for free in gleam gibs. Card Idling

According to Enhanced steam I can make 9 more euros if I idle/play games and sell cards

Just wow.

Edit: I'll idle free gleam shit on my alt acc not on this one :P

I used to sell cards like you.

Then I took an arrow to the knee, and now I'm hoarding them :3. Too lazy to even write script that will sell all that trash. At least people on STM have much fun.

Same, but without the arrow. I just started trading, so I suddenly had no reason to waste my time listing cards.

Now I use them for crafting, so I can reach ludicrous amounts of emotes.

It's GabeN trap, don't fall in it. I leveled up my ass to L100 and I promised myself to not level up anymore.

Now I level up ArchiBoT :3

Not really, it's still a waste ;_;

I never bought any emoticon, background, or card on the market. All comes either from crafting, trading or donations.

BTW, before I stopped selling cards I made probably at least 200$+, didn't really count that much as most was spent on giveaways or converted to RWC.

375 pages suppose all of them are cards, 25 cards per page, thats 9375 cards, even a 0.03 cents thats almost 300$, you are one generous human being. not just for this, for everything.

I don't use any idling software or idle manually, I just play the games I want to play. If they drop cards, I sell them when I have a few of them in my inventory. Probably somewhere between €5-10 in total so far. Checked my games with cards left do drop with Enhanced Steam, I can expect around €50 more when I have played all games with cards.

I wouldn't want to add bad games just because they have cards, I like it that my library consists of games I want to play.

Also, there's the thing with electricity cost vs what you get from idling. I would lose money if I left my computer on during the night to idle for cards, but in countries with cheaper electricity (or if you have a really power efficient computer) it can still be profitable.

Most people don't idle on dedicated PCs, most of the idling is done during your PC on hours, like now, so the cost of idling is 0$, unless you don't have a PC and can't run e.g. ASF.

Comment has been collapsed.

Is it possible to idle while you are playing other Steam games? I figured the idling software "used" your account during the time you don't use it yourself. Most of the time I'm playing games while I'm at my PC, I often check SG from the phone :(

I probably wouldn't start idling anyway, since I kind of like it that all my spent time in games is time I spent for real, but still interesting to know, and you're the main expert on the subject ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you want your playtime to be accurate you could just play all the games and sell the cards. And I think you can idle more than 2 games at once.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's exactly what I'm doing, check my first post ;)
Although I'm playing each game from beginning to end, not just until the cards drop.

Is it possible to idle while you are playing other Steam games?

Nope, at least not with any decent card drop rate active. But I'm sure that you're not playing 24/7 when your PC is active, so having e.g. ASF in the background that automatically farms when you're not playing, and stops when you are, can lead to some extra cards being dropped.

TBH it's the whole concept why I created my own idling software - I can add it to Windows startup, and it does everything out of the box. I don't need to pay attention when to farm and when to play. I play whenever I want, and ASF farms when it can.

I add all the trash to an alt account with nothing on it other than trash and idle like that so I can keep my real library free. Also did you know you could permanently remove games from your library?

Good idea. I wouldn't have the motivation to keep it up though (having a second account for game idling).

Well I started getting the free games from gleam one month ago. I have about 50 games on a secondary account and I'm yet to add 5€ to start idling, so for now I'm just hoarding them all.

Btw any tips on how to get them (free or close to free) games?

Comment has been collapsed.

Cheap bundles on steam are likely to give you more in trading cards than what they cost, but you have to do some (easy) math do know if it will be worth it.
For example, there is currently a 4 games bundle sold 33 (euro-)cents.
Each of the game has 5 cards total, each selling for 7 cents (hence 5 cents for you).
So if you buy the bundle, you will have 12 cards total (half of each set, therefore 3, for each game), this gives you 60 cents for your 33 cents bundle.

Mostly from trading cards. But lately I've been hoarding cards just in case I'll get booster packs and I'll be able to complete some badges that I actually want. I even have two badges that are missing one card each and I'm 29xp away from the next level.. Must.. control.. myself..

I only farm my alts, actually my second one is just aprox one month old so the cards are just waiting there for me to unlock them.
From my older alt I got over 400 cards, but I haven't sold them, I'm just hoarding them for the moment.
I have sold a bunch of cards on the past but that was before I started farming them.

Just a question do u really get more booster packs when u level on steam?
Feel like im getting unlucky or just don't have the right games :P

I saw this one some post on steam that it was a 20% increase wondering if u really notice it

I get like 1 every month now.

Every 10 level is like 10% less time you need to wait to get a booster pack as far as i can remember... so a lvl 50 will get 4 times the booster packs a lvl 10 would get

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So levelling just for the booster packs is not really worth it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think you will make a profit by levelling, you will spend far more cards as you level up than you will get back. You can get to the lower level increases by performing social functions and getting community badges, etc. I believe qualifying for boosters in more games at a lower level will get you better returns if you take that kind of thing seriously.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

if you do it with christmas / summer cards you get for free by farming them with multiple accounts then yes,if you pay for the cards then not really, you might get back what you spent for the cards after 5-6 months with the boosters... you often get 8 cents booster tho,so don't think every booster is worth 10euros.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, it is not worth it. In fact, it is counter-productive; the more badges you get, the more chance of getting a low-value booster you have. You are probably more likely to make money getting a rare badge and crafting boosters to sell from gems and even that is rarely worthwhile.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

"the more chance of getting a low-value booster". What if you remove from your library the games with low-value cards ? Would it help ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not quite. Each 10 levels increases the booster drop chance by 10% but we don't know what that is relative to since it has never officially (to my knowledge) been stated. In no case would a level 50 get 300% more than a level 10.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have several low-level alts and main account - based on my experience it's not worth it to level up at all, if somebody is about to spend 5$ on steam, it's better to create another account, unlock it and load in ASF to keep eligibility.

I'm not even sure if I got more boosters with my L100 than at least 2 of my low-level alts. Sure, there might be a bigger chance, but it's bullshit most of the time. Definitely not worth any long-time investment.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agreed. I think My 110 level main gets less boosters than some of my low level my alts (around 10).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You definitely get more booster packs with higher level. My main gets one about every 3 days, my low level bots much more rarely. Of course it's not profitable in anyway. I'm down over 300 € overall, but I just like collecting the badges.

you need a decent number of games that drop cards on your library, i have around 400 games and made around 50$, so people with more games drop more cards, and make more out of them.

Not all games drop cards, check the Archi's Steam Farm thread for an automatic idler, that will drop all the cards from your library.
