and something to do with being a very big crime for bakers if found defrauding their buyers, so to be safe they used to pack in a one more extra bread so that there was very less chance of accidentally overcharging the customer in case of the breads being of smaller size than average.

In the 80's I learned that it came from the baker boy delivering 12 loaves would be paid one.

Last year it was the 12th, so this time (if I'm not mistaking) I'll be reaching 13! The baker's dozen (anyone knows why is it called like that? 🤔), which always reminds me of the Brothers in Arms trilogy: such underrated gems, still waiting for the next chapter... but I'm digressing a bit...
For real though, we're here to celebrate and on August 18th, next week, someone will be celebrating with me!
