How do people actually win giveaways?

Is all randomly. I've entered over 1000 times and win 5 of them. Don't complain.

230 points huh? That is nothing! It is random and your chances of winning are 1 in X where X is the number the number of entrants in the giveaway. And that number is often beyond 1000 which makes your chances of winning less than 0.1%

Deal with it!

Entered over 150 give aways so far and gotten nothing, and i am giving away myself aswell =)

Now with the Xmas achivements considering i have over 500 games on my steam account i get a lot of dubbles wich i will give away here =)

If you want your chances to be more then one percent, then I suggest trying to find a way into a private giveaway group with only 20 members or so. You'll start winning gifts left and right. Unfortunately, that's easier said then done. Plus most of those kinds of groups have strict rules and expect you to giveaway gifts as well.

Besides that, you're in for the long haul like everyone else.

I've been entering giveaways for like 2 minths now and I haven't won enything yet. But I didn't loose my hope. :D

Quite...easily. With every giveaway, there's a 100% chance one person will win, and a 100% chance that about 500 others will lose.
It's also very possible (But very improbable) for someone to enter 500 giveaways and win every single one, which would also mean that in those 500 giveaways, 500 people would lose each time, so it's not like you're alone in your quest for not losing.

Over 230 points is nearly nothing. It all depends on luck, I got a win after 3 months at around 320th entry. Don't expect to win something fast, just keep entering giveaways.

By reading FAQ, dude.

in all honestly this is not the site where to get games for free, it used to be for people just to give games away, now it turned into WHY i CANT get game?
Just buy it or hope for better luck!
