So I won a copy of Eets in this giveaway http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/ynv87/eets

Since there were 10 copies and I received a product key rather than a gift through steam, would it be safe to activate the key? Is anything going to happen to the illegitimately obtained Eets keys on Steam?

It should be fine, although I haven't redeemed one, there has been several given away (although agains't the rules!) so I'm sure tis all fine.

I won one myself the other day. I still haven't decided if I'm going to actually use the key(leaning towards not using it sadly :{ ). I don't want to risk having my acct hijacked, which is something that these cd keys really make me worry about(Which makes me wish either that CD keys were banned or that only people who have done over 5 give a ways can give away CD keys, that way there's some sort of existing trust.) with my acct being valued at over a whopping one thousand dollars.

You could make a separate steam account just to be safe, I wouldn't want to risk my main account for a 5$ game.

there's no way that somebody can hijack your account just by having your used Eets key... geez.

yes there is, if they have proof that the game is theirs then they can gain acces to the account.

I would, I was going to gift Unreal Tournament 3 and checked it, while also accidently activating it to my account. I'm sure the winner would understand if it didn't work :)

Ouch thats a bummer , UT3 is a nice game :D. Retail copies of it can be activated on steam :D.

because the cd key isn't from retail (google the heist ios game to learn about the exploit used to get them) you should be safe

I'm also concerned about having an illegitimately obtained game on my Steam library...

I gave away one of these legitimately that was my copy I didn't want. I say if it's not a bulk offer, and if the giver is reputable, you should be fine.

That said, there will be a million people here shortly pretending to be white knights and telling me it's illegal even though I didn't use an exploit.
