According to FAQ on their site, you have 30 days to download the game, than link expires and, if you haven't made a backup, you're screwed. And here's what Ubisoft Support Staff said on their forums:
The purchases that you make through the Ubishop online store has a one month download period. If you have exceeded that month you will need to purchase either an Extended Download Service or a Backup Disk.

But how can I backup the game? Don't see any kind of application to do it.

i don't see a backup button, too. But
a) I didn't used the website, I used the client. So maybe there is no need for backups.
b) you could try to backup the installer
c) you get a serial key, so you could activate the ...ehh... drm-free copies later, I guess

Steams competition looks great. When will all of these DD services learn, granted some are fine Like GoG.

Well I wrote tech support to make a refund. "Hello!
Just bought HAWX 2 for 1 Euro from your site, BUT! I didn't know about 30 day download time (i haven't downloaded it yet), so... I must say that I re-install my software quite often, and if it's not possible to make DVD backup, I want to get refund! Suppose you don't write about such awful things when people buy - and I find it dishonest. Hope I get my 1 Euro back. Thanks!"

Lol, inb4
"We apologize, but we have taught you about your rights. You have entered into a legally binding contract with us. Thank you for calling the Ubisoft support."

Don't hope too much for an answer. Their support is notoriously slow. I remember when my friend got Hawx 2 from nvidia graphics card coupon - he tried downloading a few times and then the website blocked his link because of "more than 5 attempts" (or something along those lines). He sent a support ticket and still no answer. Oh yeah and it was last september...

This is not true anymore. The new version of Uplay client published today allows you to download your games as many times as you like. It looks very similar to Origin now.

15/08/2012 Here are some of the main features of the new Uplay PC client:
GAMES LIBRARY
Browse and re-download your games.
FAQ All download products purchased through the Ubisoft Online Store can be downloaded or re-downloaded for a period of 30 days from the date of purchase. We recommend creating a backup of your download after purchase should you ever need to re-download or re-install.

So it's just simple bullshit to trick us for our money. They just write things to make moar money.

You bought it? So you got a key? Then you can always play it, it's not so hard to get a normal copy. coughs

Where can I find this FAQ? I've been looking for it for the past half hour without success. Or rather, where can I find that specific paragraph mentioning the 30 day thing?

in the client: go to the shop and click on "help"

You just copy-pasted two different sections. I guess the FAQ is just not yet updated. Otherwise the client won't make any sense.

I have AC2 on Uplay (retail copy) didnt downloaded it ever ( i used the DVD) and they never removed my game, it has reached +30 days without having it installed or downloaded, so i think its not true atm, maybe they are going to change it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's just outdated FAQ

Derp. People are talking that that their store bought copies are always available. That's not the same thing as buying a digital version direct from Ubi which is what the OP is talking about.
