Go for quality and drop the headset idea and buy good headphones and attach a cheep mic to it.

Definitely follow this advice. I can't give any advice for that price range though unfortunately. I've got two Audio Technica headphones M50x and AD700x for closed and open designs respectively and I'm pretty sure they're above your price but maybe not on sale shrug. Can't be bothered converting from NZD right now heh. The mic I use is this http://www.modmic.com/ which is just convenient for attaching and decent quality. But you could grab some velcro stickers and throw them on anything. I don't play on a desk so a table mic doesn't suit me.

I have a behringer HPX2000 for everything that doesn't needs a mic, and they're nice.
For when I do need a mic I have a GX Mordax that I wouldn't recomend honestly, it's only good for talking and on-line gaming, they suck for music and stuff like that.

I have an HPX4000, and the audio quality is great (awesome freq response), but it's so stiff it hurts my ears :(
is the 2000 comfortable? I was considering a switch.

I definitely should. My mistake was buying mine online as I often buy stuff from Gear4Music so I had a little discount.

I use Turtle Beach PX22. I got it for ~$70. They have nice sound quality, a decent mic, and it's very durable.

using sennheizer 449? (well they look similar to mine anyway) for about 4-5 years now. i can only recomment them. there is no mic so you would need to get a separate mic. i dropped them (headphones) quite a few times and they still work :) also when i got them i got 2x 1meter cables with them + the cable from the headphones itself is about 1.5 meters. and if they break someday i would by them again

I use a Sennheiser HD 558 cups paired with a Zalman ZM-MIC1, all plugged into a Soundblaster Z sound card. I'm quite satisfied with this setup for games. Oh, don't buy any "gaming" headset - they are all way overpriced for their sound quality. It's always better to buy the best stereo headphones you can get for the money and slap a cheap and good mic on them, like aforementioned Zalman.

If you were using a Razer Kraken for 2 years, and you've liked it, why change? I bought a Razer Kraken about 2-3 years ago, and I was overusing it. After 1 year and 2-3 months, it died (sound was only coming from one side). I was trying to see which other headphones could fit me, because I have really big and splayed ears, but there wasn't a single headphone, which could fit these requirements. So I chose the Razer Kraken Pro Neon and it works perfectly. It's really comfortable (as you might have experienced), and it has really good quality. In my opinion don't change :)

Hah, thanks for this comment. My current Razer Kraken Pro headset is only outputting sound from the right. Possibly because I've dropped(accidentally) them several times but I've had it for about a year or so. I believe the mic stopped working too.

I used Siberia V2, but when i saw Hyper X Cloud II on sale, i immediately got it. The Siberia was kinda annoying for my ears, but the Hyper X is fantastic. The quality of the sounds is great, and it fits my ears perfect, so i wont feel anything <3

Logitech UE6000 + V-Moda Boom Pro Microphone. ~90Euros I paid for the pair. Great quality on both. Not sure about the prices in $ so have a look if you want.

I have a pair of Razor Kraken headphones... they work alright, but my favor pair of head phones on the cheap is the Playstation Gold Wireless headphones. They are by far the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn, I have a big head. Just make sure you get the ones with the new hinges instead of the old shitty hinges.

Same thing I have, probably can get this in the states for 80? I do which to get a better standalone mic one day & ears but it does the job & is 10x cheaper than high qulity gear
